Winnipeg municipal affairs minister Andy Anstett introduced in legislature several Municipal Act amendments for 1985. Proposals include liability insurance exemptions for council members, authority to cover legal expenses, council procedure guidelines, flexible augural meeting dates, reserve funds in village districts, ward boundary changes, extension of conflict of interest rule to unincorporated districts, broader audit acceptance by the director, and grants in lieu of taxes paid by Municipal Properties Incorporated to municipalities.

Fire destroys home near Rossburn on June 8
A family lost their home when a fire at the Zane Luhowy farm destroyed the residence. The Rossburn Fire Department, with Birtle and neighbors, fought the blaze after a 6 PM siren. Fire Chief Larry Sidoryk cites overheated grease on the stove as the cause. Proceeds from a Knights of Columbus Tri-Moto Derby on July 7 will aid the Luhowy family. riders aged 16+ may participate in a 45 mile loop starting and ending at Oakburn Community Rink from 10 AM to 1 PM.
