Poem recalling youth and carefree days. The speaker reflects on memories of friends lovers and dances from youth, celebrated with rippling music and playful quarrels. Nostalgia frames the world as a ballroom of youth, song and laughter, with time stealing those days away.
Cpl. D. K. Whyte arrived to take charge of the Virden RCMP detachment replacing Cpl. F. V. Carter who is posted to Portage la Prairie. Whyte, formerly of Gladstone, has 19 years in the RCMP with five years at Reston and three at Rossburn prior to heading Gladstone in 1953.
A shower in honor of Mrs Leo Krulicki nee Florence Derkatch, a June 6 bride elect, was held Saturday June 13. Florence was escorted to a decorated chair as family and friends, including Mrs Mike Skvinski of Sandy Lake, presented corsages. Marjorie Maxwell read the address, gifts were opened, and Florence thanked the group. A lovely refreshment spread followed.
Rossburn hosts continued growth as Anglo buys 80 foot frontage north of Wasyl Strank's building for immediate bulk oil plant construction and later a modern service station. Total development valued around 35000 dollars boosts town taxes while excavation begins for a new home on Mike FE Antonin property. Additional homes await due to high lot costs.
Hap Latimer left Tuesday for Erickson where he has been transferred to manage Beaver Lumber. Jack Lindsay takes temporary charge of the local yard after several months of retirement.
A quiet wedding occurred May 16 at First United church parlors in Brandon. Ethel Beatrice Harding and Garth Albert Bray Ridge exchanged vows in a double ring ceremony officiated by Rev J A Berridge. Bridesmaid Miss Eleanor Hathwaite and best man Bert Hepinstall attended. The couple plans a short U S honeymoon and will live in Portage la Prairie Man. where the groom will manage a new propane gas plant.
The Rossburn Rural Municipality held its regular June meeting with Reeve Shust presiding and full council in attendance. Minutes and the May financial report were approved. Tenders from Andrew Barnesky for a bridge at 16-21-24 for 119 dollars and Keating Bros. for Boundary Road work were accepted. The Herd By-Law extended to Ward Three. Old age assistance granted to two applicants. Arbitrators appointed for Culross Islay and Sharman Eckford School Districts. Road diversion purchase approved. Patrol rate set at 3 dollars per hour. other work at government rate. Bills approved. next meeting July 20.
Approximately 100 cars filled the Fishing Lake picnic grounds for a June bingo. The Rossburn Game and Fish thanked volunteers and donors as the event raised $176.30 with prizes donated by local residents. Additional raffle sales brought in $98.00 for the group.
Medical Officer of Health J. L. Layng calls for a catch up vaccination drive in Rossburm to complete full polio immunization. Two mornings June 25 and July 2 from 10 a.m. to noon will offer doses, with emphasis on booster doses for former students now out of school.
Mr and Mrs J Cleaver of Winnipeg spent the week end with Mr and Mrs S Mitchell. Vivian Cleland left Thursday for a week end visit with Winnipeg friends. Congratulations to the Rossburn C G I T group on receiving their Chevron certificate the only award for Canadian Girls in Training. Mr and Mrs Jim Smale and family of Rivers spent the week end with Mr and Mrs S Ukrainetz also visiting were Mr and Mrs H Collingridge.
A series of severe electrical storms Tuesday drenched Rossburn area, yielding 2.19 inches of rain from 1:00 a.m. to midnight. Temperatures ranged from 54 to 86 degrees over the past week, and long-range frost fears proved unfounded as nights remained unusually warm for early summer.
Mr and Mrs M D Malaniuk of Rossburn announce the engagement of their second daughter Pauleen to Doug las A Joiner son of Mr and Mrs Abner Joiner of Rossburn. The wedding is set for July 4 1959 at 2 30 pm at Knox United Church Rossburn Manitoba.
Mr and Mrs Jack Miller announce the engagement of their eldest daughter Eileen Margaret to Sidney Rockall of Headingly Man. An open house will be held at the bride’s parents home on July 4 from 7 p m to 10 p m.
Anniversary fair work advances with committee reports and souvenir buttons offered at 25c. A letter from the first secretary recalls the 50th anniversary milestone, Manitoba government support, and early efforts to form the Agricultural Society, inviting reunions with old acquaintances.
Cameron Bolton Elvie Bolton and Archie Martin united in marriage on June 10 in the Presbyterian Church at Elphinstone. Rev L Jackson officiated. A surprise wedding supper followed and relatives welcomed them home. A Tuesday reception at Ekford Schoolhouse featured a coral chenille bedspread and money gifts from guests including Mrs Tom Rogers and Mrs Annie Cochrane.
