The Village council held a meeting Tuesday evening with all members present and Mayor Earl Moffat presiding. The minutes were read and confirmed. the constable’s report was reviewed and financials were presented.
A resolution from Town Council support requests an all weather road on the Russell Erickson Highway. Arrangements for a new outdoor toilet at the Town Hall were made with construction to begin immediately. Next meeting set for Monday, July.
Fred Hodgkinson announced the first annual meeting of the Northwest Credit Union chapter in Rossburn Town Hall at 8 p.m. Monday June 21. Officers and members from across the district are invited to attend.
The Hereford association held its Manitoba field day at R J McClement’s Hayfield farm drawing 1200 visitors. Grant Macewen and John Conner oversaw the barbecue pit serving almost 400 pounds of beef while 4 H Club members from Rossburn joined the crowd. The day featured bleacher crowds, a formal opening by James I Moffatt, and a post event ball game stop at Brandon Stadium.
The tag day yielded only 11.83 dollars though crowds were in town. Weather apart, organizers hoped for 35 to 40 dollars and thanked donors for plot care, urging early donations of three dollars for a single grave or five dollars for a double plot to start seasonal maintenance.
Rossburn Sports Day yielded cool weather and a smaller crowd as Holar captured the Queen's Day tournament with four straight wins ending 3 0 over Foxwarren. Opening rounds saw McConnell beat Menzie 10 0. Holar defeated Gilbert Plains. Strathclair edged Vista. Erickson bested Angusville. Foxwarren defeated Russell in extra innings. final game score unavailable.
A Regina Leader-Post reprint notes 30 men completed nine months of study to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at a passout ceremony in the bar racks drill hall. About 500 attended including 70 Moose Jaw teachers college members and NATO students from the Moose Jaw RCAF station. Manitoba’s L. G. Condon and R. K. Stitt of Rossburn were among the graduates, with others from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
Steve Kulbaski of Eden drowned while fishing on Kerr Lake Sunday June 13 at 5 p.m. In his motor boat were Skibinski and Dencon, also of Eden. Funeral held at Polonia Roman Catholic church Tuesday. Kulbaski predeceased by wife in 1948. Survived by two daughters ages 10 and 12. Body found by RCMP about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Pony Leaguers trailed 12–3 but surged back to win 23–20 on Tuesday at the school grounds. Rossburn pitchers Henry Rubiniuk and Robert Carson worked the mound as Rossburn posted a 313 0610 line while Birtle finished 840 312 2-20.
Foxwarren beats Rossburn Seniors at Foxwarren on Monday evening by six to zero. Rossburn shut out Foxwarren in the first and last innings while Foxwarren scored four runs in the first and two in the middle innings.
The Rossburn Midgets traveled to Birtle last Wednesday and defeated them 5 to 4. Kazun pitched eleven strike outs for Rossburn while Robert Fulton was the loser. Final score Rossburn 5 Birtle 4 with 100 1111-5 notation.
