Mortgage burning marks Rossburn Co op annual meeting
About 40 members attended the Rossburn Consumers Co operative Limited annual meeting to witness the mortgage burn a milestone in the society's history. Fred Hodgkinson announced his departure to Swan River and Harvey McKnight will take over as manager. The group heard reports on finances with 1953 sales at 91837.96 and net savings rising to 3819.68 while expenses fell. A mortgage burning ceremony followed the director election and a goodwill presentation to Mrs Stitt. The gathering closed with a communal lunch at Fort Garry Hotel Winnipeg.

Rossburn Council June Meeting Highlights Actions Taken
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held its June meeting on Saturday June 5. The minutes were confirmed and the financial statement adopted. One Old Age pension application was approved. A Welfare Council of Greater Winnipeg brief seeking removal of Child Welfare Act Section 12 sub 6b was approved. The council invited tenders to sell the Vista Manitoba building and scales. They requested a provincial grant for a road north of 12 19 23 W1 and authorized the Secretary Treasurer to attend an Extension Course in Municipal Administration and Public Finance at the University of Manitoba Fort Garry June 21 to 25, 1954 with offices closed. Bills were approved for payment. The next regular meeting and July 3 1954 Court of Revision were scheduled.

Funeral Service Held For Mary Gawryluk Accident Victim
Mary Gawryluk 16 of Rossburn died en route to Birtle Hospital after a car crash five miles south of Birtle on highway 83. Driver was Mary Gawryluk. Alex Babiuk survived with shock treated. Funeral June 8 at Rossburn United Church conducted by Rev Kowalewich. Survivors include Metro and Mary Gawryluk, two brothers Mike Billy, five sisters Olga Mildred Martha Ann Elsie.

Weather Halts Baseball Week. Local Games Report
Wet weather has canceled baseball all week except for Friday night when Murray Cormack led the Rossburn Seniors to a 6-5 win over Birtle on the local grounds. At the school field the Little Leaguers lost again by a large margin, and at Shoal Lake Harris Huston’s midgets fell 4-2 in a close contest.

June 5 wedding at Norwood United Church joined Mary Edith Sim and Willis Orme Stitt in a double ring ceremony. Officiant Rev T M Badger, organist Alice Walker, and Harold Bytheway sang. Bride wore white lace and net gown. groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Stitt of Vista. About 95 guests attended a Civic Caledonian Club reception. They will live on the groom’s Vista farm after a trip to Kenora and the U S A.
