Rally Day draws 4-H clubs to Russell event

Seventeen 4-H clubs from Roblin Russell districts attended Rally Day at Major Pratt School Russell on June 2 1979. Sponsored by Russell Agricultural Society with Russell Area 4-H District Council and Manitoba Agriculture. Parade through downtown Russell featured Inglis Happy Stitchers and Busy Beavers as champion marching club and banner trophy winners.

Color TV installed in Children's Ward

Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary met May 22 at Marie Lion's home with ten members. Minutes and treasurer's report were adopted. A color TV was purchased and installed in the children's ward. Tag Day is set for May 26. Meals on Wheels raised prices to 1.60 per meal. Colleen Palmer reported on the Regional Meeting in Hamiota and noted next year’s regional gathering in Rossburn. A nominating committee was formed for president and vice president and Meals on Wheels assistant. Next meeting at Rossman Lake June 26 at 6 30 p m. husbands invited. Food orders due by June 19 to May Lawless for Gourmet Pizza. May Lawless won Hostess Prize.

Pelly Trail S D routine meeting minutes summary

The Pelly Trail School held a routine meeting at 8 00 pm with Cam Collins Leonard Goletz Leonard Derkach Wilma Joyce Vince Furman and Stan Jackson present. May 7 minutes were adopted. The board approved a field trip for two Grade IV classes from Rossburn Elementary to Winnipeg on June 7 and 8 1979 using a division bus.

Advisory committee reports grain transport woes at June meeting

The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met June 4 with ten committee members and four commissioners present. Production deliveries are down 9.7 percent year over year and total grain exports have fallen 7.6 percent. A strike at terminals costs farmers about 40,000 tonnes daily and over six million dollars in export value. CPR and CN executives discussed funding, car shortages, and logistics, outlining needs for more hopper cars and rail investment. by 1985 a 10,000 car deficit is projected. Plans include a West Coast visit and a meeting with the new Wheat Minister, with the next meeting set for July 4.
