Drowning Fatality From Truck Mishap Near Rossburn
A man identified as Alex Oryniak, 53, drowned in the Birdtail River after his ton truck missed a municipal road corner six miles north and one mile west of Rossburn. Rossburn RCMP reported the accident occurred between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, with investigation continuing. The feature also notes recent summerlike temperatures in the area.

Stitt Family Reunion Celebrates Pioneer Arrival 100 Years Ago
The Stitt family marked the 100th anniversary of pioneer Joseph Jackson Stitt’s arrival in Manitoba with a reunion at Bob and Margaret Stitt’s farm on June 17 1979. Seventy attendees, including 32 direct descendants of Joseph and Ann Stitt, enjoyed ball games photos and a buffet. Family members from Vista Neepawa Oak Creek Wisconsin and Rossburn attended.

The Rossburn Bantams stay unbeaten after three Mid West Baseball League games. June 11 at Russell ended 10 to 1 with Brad Lonsberry winning and Danny Reles aiding. June 13 Lazaruk and Tanasychuk led a 21 16 victory over Shoal Lake. Kaskin got the win. June 15 Rossburn beat Russell 26 10 with Tanasychuk on the mound. Coach Dwain Lawless and Leonard Mackedenski guide a veteran lineup. Next home game June 22 versus Shoal Lake. Support local Minor Baseball.

Junior Fire Fighters day at Rossburn Elementary School
Rossburn Fire Dept hosted a Junior Fire Fighters day at Rossburn Elementary School on Saturday June 9 with about 30 students aged 3 to 14. They practiced two classes and used Dry Chemical Extinguishers and Fire Hose battles, finishing with thanks to Swintak's M-M Parkway Co-op Esso and the Rossburn Lions Club for donations.

Rossburn set to welcome new drug store and doctors
Mayor reports that Jim Alexander will open a drug store in the Lee building on Mountain Road in early July, with his family residing nearby. Two doctors, Dr. Bhalwany and Dr. Shah, will practice at the hospital, jointly serving the area. The village also planted 3000 trees around the lagoon and 1000 pine trees in a nursery, with student volunteers helping. Citizens are urged to support medical services and care for the new trees as the village grows.

Couple celebrate fiftieth wedding anniversary in Manitoba
Mr and Mrs Bill Kaban of Rossburn marked their 50th wedding anniversary on June 9. Married March 9, 1929 at Ukrainian Catholic Church Otha Manitoba, they held a dinner and reception at Shoal Lake Ukrainian Hall after a church service at St Josephat Catholic Church. They have three children, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Messages came from Prime Minister Trudeau and other dignitaries.
