Manitoba appoints eight member arts policy group
Culture Minister Bonnie Mitchelson names an eight member Arts Policy Review Committee to review Manitoba arts funding. The body will hold public hearings and submit a report guiding policy for the next decade. Members include Art DeFehr Michel Legace Jack Murta Louise Soubry Max Ta Roberta Christianson Susan Drayson Murray McKenzie.

Swereda winner at fish derby
Rossburn Game and Fish Association held its annual Fish Derby and Fun Day at Rossman Lake on June 4. Al Armstrong of Oak River won the fish derby with an 8 lb 5 oz pickerel among 27 entries, earning the William Chemical Memorial Trophy and a wall mount certificate from Fur Feather and Fin Brandon. Stan Luhowy of Rossburn placed second with 7 lb 10 oz, Brad Swereda of Shoal Lake topped the jack category with a 21 lb 2 oz fish, with two others tying for second. A trophy was donated in memory of M F Kostesky, and Brad Swereda will receive a rod and reel from Parkway Co op at Arrow Lake on June 25. There were no perch entered this year.

Beatty Proposes Increases in Old Age Security Pensions
The Honourable Perrin Beatty announces July raises for Old Age Security including the base pension to 330.43, Guaranteed Income Supplement to 392.68 for singles and married couples, and increases in Spouse's and Widowed Spouse's Allowances to 586.19 and 647.17 respectively, with quarterly CPI adjustments.
