Tillage Days Planned Across District With Demonstrations
Arrangements are set for three tillage days starting June 17 at Harvey Sharpe's farm near Minnedosa, June 18 at Fred Soltys near Fraser School, and June 21 at Alf Black's farm near Rapid City. Ed Hudek of the Extension Service will demonstrate tillage machines and adjustments, with weed spraying discussed. Trials by University of Manitoba researchers show weed pressure reduces yields, highlighting early spraying at the four to six leaf stages. Recommendations emphasize early weed control and specific chemical rates for wheat, barley, flax, and oats. Also, calf club members over 16 met in Erickson on June 4 to select Brandon-bound finalists for the Western Manitoba Champions.
