Students Protest Demotion of Roseau Valley Principal
About 25 Roseau Valley School students aged six to 17 staged a May 25 protest outside the Boundary School Division Office in Dominion City over the June 30 1987 termination of principal Bev Berrington. Berrington has taught there since 1964 and led the school for 10 years as the board maintains its decision and refuses to disclose reasons. Attendance at other Manitoba events is noted, including Virden harness racing with 1020 spectators and $24573 in bets on day one, plus fire damage to a horse barn at Russell’s 106th Fair and Race Meet. The Frank Marvin Centre near Blue Lakes Campground opened May 31 as part of the Duck Mountain Centre funded by Frank Marvin and Spruce Production Ltd. to support renewable resource education.
