Ashton Province to repair Manitoba roads after spring thaw
Transportation Minister Steve Ashton says flooding and the spring thaw have caused major damage to the province's road network. Initial estimates put repair costs at about 5 million dollars with crews using private contractors as weather hampers work. Roads are inspected daily and temporary fixes are made while permanent repairs are arranged regionally. Motorists are urged to slow and heed signs and barriers on damaged sections. The system includes roughly 13 000 kilometres of paved and 6 000 kilometres of gravel roads.
