Rossbum Skating Club Holds Annual Bike-A-Thon

The Rossbum Skating Club held its annual Bike-A-Thon on Tuesday May 29. Each participant collected pledges and all funds support skating year expenses. Riders biked to Rossman Lake where they enjoyed supper and refreshments.

MPI Lowers Autopac Rates For Manitoba Drivers

Manitoba Public Insurance seeks a 1.2 percent revenue cut from the Public Utilities Board to keep auto premiums among Canada’s lowest. The plan follows a 16.6 percent one-time discount, with about 55 percent of base rates unchanged or lowered and most changes ranging from a $20 to $50 decrease for many motorists.

Manitoba to broaden high school course credits

Education minister Drew Caldwell announced changes to Manitoba high school course credit requirements to increase student choice and flexibility. The reforms let students earn credits for locally developed courses distance education post secondary courses and community service following provincewide consultation with school boards the Manitoba Teachers Society and parent councils.

Manitoba to loosen high school credits for broader choices

Minister Caldwell announced consensus backed changes to Manitoba high school credit rules. The plan simplifies compulsory and optional credits, expands distance learning recognition, allows post secondary credits for a three year trial, and adds community service credits starting 2002 03. He said the reforms expand school specialization and bridge schools with colleges and universities, while highlighting consultation results distributed to education stakeholders.
