Manitoba to toughen rules on suspended drivers and impoundments
New Highway Traffic Act provisions require impounding vehicles for 96 days on second or more suspensions within two years, up from 66 days. A mandatory impaired driver assessment is set for those with two or more suspensions in three years for BAC over .05, with licence suspensions if assessments or required programs are not completed, and higher impound and appeal fees. Manitoba cites past declines in impaired driving as justification.
