Landslide approval for Rossburn high school by law

Voters in the Pelly Trail School Division approve a 528000 by law for new high schools serving Rossburn Elphinstone Russell and Inglis by a total 1160 For 588 Against. Ward 5 81 percent For and Ward 7 86 percent For lead the rural support. Construction to begin by July with final building specs and bids to be set after the trustees meeting Wednesday.

The board of trustees expresses gratification as a majority of voters on Tuesday approve the high school building program. The note indicates continuation on Page Five.

Community Notes and Social Happenings in Vista

Mr and Mrs Bob Cowan and family from Winnipeg visited the Rogers for the weekend. Steve Woycheshin and Johnny from Winnipeg stopped by to visit relatives. Sympathy to the Halliday family on their bereavement. Lorne Mackedenski of Shellmouth visited his parents. Dean Hamilton and Vivian McLachlin of Brandon were weekend guests of the Hamiltons. A Brandon couple attended the funeral in Rossburn. Eugene Musgrove and Wally Miller of Shoal Lake visited J Miller. Two ball games were played. Birtle defeated Angusville at Vista. Angusville won. Baptism and communion were held May 29 with Sandra May Stitt baptized and 26 communion. Rev Whetter officiated. Vista Women’s Institute met at Netty Hry sak’s with eight members and four visitors. convention reports by Joan Baker and Dorothy Armstrong. Next meeting at Nita Bell Halliday’s. Rossburn CGIT Mother and Daughter Banquet

The CGIT held its Mother and Daughter Banquet on May 30 with Janet Johnston toasting the Queen. Elaine Hutton thanked the W. A. for the meal and gifts honored graduates Elaine Hutton and Dawn Moffat. The wind-up May/June events included choir gown plans and gifts to Miss Guest and Miss McKinnon.

Oakburn Parish Hall officially opened by Premier Roblin

Premier Roblin officiated at the Oakburn Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish Hall opening on Monday June 6 with about 350 attendees. Dignitaries included J N Mandziuk MLA and M Strickland MLA, Reeve Antonation, and local parish members. The program featured a ribbon cutting by Roblin, Ukrainian- clad girls, prayers, community singing, and a $50 donation from Father Romanyshyn with dancing to CKY Playboys.

Roblin visit and christening in local families

Local notes report Mr and Mrs G Lawless visiting Bob Kelso and Layngs at Roblin on Sunday. Winnipeg guests Mrs MacNeil Mrs Rossong and the Cooks spent the weekend with the Bolton family. The infant son of Mr and Mrs George Heindle was christened Donald Wayne at United Church on May 29.

Chegwin Awarded Gravel Contract

Manitoba's highway program moved into high gear with major awards in May. Hon. John Thompson announced a gravel contract for the substructure of an 800-foot bridge over the Saskatchewan River at Grand Rapids. Con. Bridge Limited bid $667,158 to build the 112 mile link to the Hydro Site with three other tenders.

Shower In Honor Of Bride-elect Evangeline Strileski

A May 22 shower at the Ukr. National Home honored bride-elect Evangeline Strileski. Myrna Smycniuk played accordion as Evangeline entered and received gifts drawn in by Delmar Hindle and Judy Mhlagy. Over 80 ladies attended lunch afterward.
