Voters of the Pelly Trail School Division go to the polls on Tuesday June 7 to decide on a money by law for the High School Building program. The plan includes seven room schools at Elphinstone and Inglis a 14 room school at Russell and a four room addition at Rossburn.
A miscellaneous shower for Jean Yanyk, bride elect for June 30, was held May 22 in the Parish Hall. Guests included Jean’s mother Mrs. John M. Yanyk and grandmothers Mrs. Tom Benza, Mrs. Mike Yanyk, Mrs. Dutehminsky, and Mrs. Zachary. Corsage welcome, gifts opened, and a lunch served to 140 ladies.
Week end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hubert included guests from Winnipeg and Lockport. J N Mandziuk returned from Ottawa. Sonia Malanchuk attended graduation as a registered nurse at Winnipeg General Hospital. Mackegan Michigan visitors visited Mrs. Andrew Lobay. A beaver appeared in Maduke's Lake and rainbow trout stocking is planned after a winter kill.
A pleasant evening at Mrs. J. Huston’s home hosted friends and relatives bidding goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. David Sherritt before they move to Brandon to start a new life. Music and singing highlighted the event with a dainty lunch served as thanks to community volunteers.

Maria Prokopchuk a Sandy Lake pioneer died at 92 on April 24 at her residence. Born 1868 in Kudrynchi Galicia she came to Canada 1907 married Jakiw Prokopchuk 1909 and settled near Sandy Lake. Funeral services were held at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with burial in the local cemetery.
Fred W. Cochrane 68 of Winnipeg died April 24 in Deer Lodge Hospital after serving in World War I. He leaves brother Earl Cochrane Saskatoon and sisters Madeline Craig Creston B C and Florence Haglund Tucson Manitoba. Funeral at Thompson's Funeral Home 1:30 p m Tuesday April 26 burial Veterans Lot Brookside Cemetery.
Mr M Jarema of Elphin stone elected to the Board of Directors of the Children's Aid Society for 1960 61 at the annual meeting held at Knox Church Brandon. About 300 citizens attended, with S W K Stevenson named President. Citizens in Elphinstone may contact Mr Jarema or any board member for help or to offer assistance.
The Pelly Trail Regional Trustees Association asks resident electors to support the June 7 money by law vote for high school accommodation. The notice was mailed to householders by the Board of the Pelly Trail School Division. N L Turnbull chairs the association.
The week end saw Mr and Mrs Gary McLennan of Minnedosa visiting Mrs and Mrs Wm Stitt. Garry Hamilton returned to Winnipeg after being home a month. Families of Brandon joined Fred Zenchyshyn for the visit. Mrs A MacPhail attended her cousin's funeral in Peterborough Ontario. Vista Bantam Bs beat Hamiota 5 to 3. Vista Rossburn Midgets hosted Birtle Indians 6 to 1. Mrs Lorne Hrysak attended her uncle M A Zubrack’s funeral in Saskatoon May 20.
In a Friday night clash at the local ball grounds Rossburn beat Shoal Lake 8-6. Henry Hrubeniuk earned the win with a 3 run triple in the seventh as Cockerill failed to retire a batter. Kowal went 3 for 3 and Doug Joiner added a homer for Rossburn while Cockerill homered for Shoal Lake.
Crown Attorney Hon. Sterling Lyon announces William James Burgess of Minnedosa aged 64 as acting crown attorney for Manitoba's northern district. Effective April 23, he will base duties at Minnedosa headquarters after the federal appointment of predecessor W G Ferguson to the Court of Queen's Bench on March 26.
