Successful Game and Fish Bingo At Fishing Lake

A large crowd attended the Game and Fish Bingo at Fishing Lake on a June evening. After prizes, $48 was cleared. A second Bingo will be held later this month with a free picture show. Watch for further announcements. Numerous items won include groceries, cash, a transistor radio, a picnic ham, and a flowering shrub.

Recent Passing Of Vista Resident

Thom as H Halliday died at his home near Vista on Friday June 3 after a lingering illness. The funeral was held Tuesday June 7 at Vista United Church conducted by Pastor T Ferguson. Pallbearers were six nephews Matt John Tom Adam Wm and Jack Halliday. Born in Moffatt Scotland he came to Canada with family seventy three years ago at age ten. He married Christena Bennett on June 27 1900 at the family home five miles west of Oakburn. they celebrated their golden wedding in 1950. They lived on their farm for sixty years and he remained active in church work. Survived by his widow Christena one daughter Mrs Stacey and one grandchild.

Mary Jane Shaw Rites Held in Rossburn United Church

Funeral services for Mary Jane Shaw 85 9 months of Brandon were conducted at Rossburn United Church on June 6 1960 with Rev. E E Austin and Rev H Baker officiating. Interment followed at Rossburn Cemetery. Surviving are three sons, five daughters, two brothers, one sister, 31 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.

Life's race well run and victory won for Mrs Halliday

Born to Mr and Mrs Sterling Veitch a son Kevin Dale on June 13 at Russell Hospital Mr and Mrs W J Peden of Brandon visited Mr and Mrs W Williamson recently Mrs Young stayed with her daughter.

Grandmothers Tea Event Draws 48 Attendees

The annual Grandmothers Tea sponsored by the Women's Institute was held Thursday afternoon in the church annex with forty eight grandmothers in attendance. Corsages were given, a Welcome poem opened the program, and speakers recalled “the good old days.” Prizes honored the oldest grandmother, the grandmother with the most grandchildren, the most recent grandma, and new grandmothers since 1959. A lunch ended the pleasant event.

Rossburn Rural Council June Meeting Notes 1960

The Rossburn Rural Municipality council met June 14 1960 in the council chambers. Attendees included Reeve M J Sot as Councillors Morley Brown William Hyra Mike Pawluk and Mike Baubie. The minutes were confirmed. financial report for May 31 1960 adopted. Actions covered hay cutting on NW ¼ 34-19-24, road diversion inquiry at Mears Man, by law 847 dissolution of Perch 2177 school district and land transfer, use of municipal power by Rossburn Agricultural Society, admission of Steve Werbowski to Sandy Lake Nursing Home, by law 849 for Lakeside resort rights, protest against removal of Vista shelter, appointment of Frank Zegalski as arbitrator for school consolidation petitions, and application for a 60 percent road grant for school division bus routes. The notice continues on page 4.

Mrs Irene Osborne spent last week in Moosomin Saskatchewan then returned to the York home Monday. Winnipeg visitors included Tom Maxwell Margaret and Betty Bowcott and Mr and Mrs Maxwell of Calgary. Ernie Finch of Kenora is visiting the Cleland home. Lou Davis family of Winnipeg and Ronnie Kostesky left Monday for Winnipeg for a few days.

Vista News Briefs From Franklin and Winnipeg Visitors

Mr and Mrs Cliff Williams of Franklin visited Thursday with Mr and Mrs A Belinski. Frank and Joe Woycheshin of Winnipeg visited relatives over the weekend. Garry and Peggy Hamilton of Winnipeg were home with their parents over the weekend. Two ball games this week saw Vista victorious over Birtle and Oak River. Mrs M D Hamilton went to Winnipeg on Sunday with Alec Kerr for medical attention. Mrs Sarah McIntosh of Winnipeg is visiting Mr and Mrs Wm Stitt. Friends and family from Minnedosa and Carnduff Sask joined weekend gatherings.
