Rossburn residents approved a 145000 by law for a water and sewer system in the village with a 161 to 86 vote. Ste. Rose du Lac also approved a 160000 by law for water and sewage infrastructure by 187 to 57. Both communities will receive water from the provincial Water Supply Board.
In the North western Baseball League Angusville sits atop the standings while Rossburn drops to second after a 6 to 4 loss to Russell on Thursday night. Remaining teams include Foxwarren Elphinstone Strathclair and Buhene Erickson with varied records as week results roll in.
The Roblin Russell WI district convention was at Binscarth Memorial Hall on May 22. 104 delegates, board members and visitors attended. Essays winners announced for Senior and Junior contests. The 1963 64 board of directors listed.
In the 1914 opening league game Russell and Rossburn tied 10 to 10 while Russell defeated Foxwarren 18 to 6. Dr Evans, health officer, praised Rossburn for clean village pride at noon on Thursdays. Two successful dances occurred at Marco Hall with music by the Merry Music Makers. Gardiner property at Oakburn sold.
The Rossburn Women’s Institute met in the Club Room on Tuesday June 4. President Mrs. McKnight chaired with secretary treasurer Mrs. Stewart. They donated a Trophy for the top track and field performer on Field Day, to be kept by the winner. Linda Levitsky of grade 7 won this year. Mrs. Howard Alexander and Mrs. Wilson Stitt read poems, Miss Barker sang two solos, and Miss Reid accompanied on piano. Mrs. McKnight won the jackpot. a Grandmother’s Tea is rescheduled for Tuesday June 18 at 3 pm in the annex. invitations extended to grandmothers and Vista and Birdtail WI members.
Wet humid spell continues with outages repaired at C N R Station after Thursday storm. Temperature readings show May 30 82 48, May 31 72 42, June 1 89 50, June 4 59 51, June 5 65 82 with traces noted.
The Rossburn Hospital Administrative Committee met with Vice President Bert Mitchell chairing in J Stitt’s absence. N Smith read the previous minutes, approved by A Cleland and J Lawless. A financial report was accepted by A McIntosh and L Hrycak. A McIntosh and J Lawless moved to insulate the Children’s Ward and soundproof its door, by Building Committee and Mrs Stitt. Meeting adjourned on motion of J Lawless.
The Rossburn Lions Club hosts its Third Annual Sports Day on Saturday June 15 at the Rossburn Fair Grounds. Events include Senior Baseball with 100 50 and 25 prize money and a Men's Fastball tournament. Minor Baseball features Bantam BB AB and Midget divisions. Entry numbers to Norman Major by June 14. Last year winners were Shoal Lake Lavinia Binscorth and Hamiota in various events.
A 1962 Manitoba survey of Riding Mountain National Park visitors shows Manitobans predominating at the south gate with 72 percent and 57.3 percent from Saskatchewan at the north gate. Respondents favor preservation of forests and wildlife and pursue activities like rest, swimming, motoring, picnicking, nature observation and golf while expressing concern over beach conditions at Clear Lake and urged stricter law enforcement.
A film program featuring Manitoba tourist attractions and centennial planning is presented by the Rossburn H Club at Rossburn Town Hall. The event starts 8:30 p.m. Saturday June 15 with admission 25 cents for adults, free for students. Proceeds aid H Rally Day expenses. M. J. G. McMullen is guest speaker and narrator.
