Oakburn District Sports Day and Fish Derby Highlights
The Oakburn Game and Fish Association held a successful Sports Day and Fish Derby at Leech Lake on July 5. Six teams competed in slow pitch softball with A side led by L Mackedenski’s Rossburn team taking first, B side top honors to Sandy Lake, and Chris Nowalkowski’s Mudrunners placing second. Barry Mitchell of Winnipeg won the fish derby with a 5 lb 14% oz pike earning a Minmi Kota life jacket. Bill Citulski of Rivers was second with a 2 lb 6 oz pike receiving a Mercury spinning rod. Prizes were donated by Tackle Shack and Hunting Co. of Winnipeg. Various locals and visitors were noted at the event and surrounding visits, including Toronto-area and Manitoba residents, with no walleye or perch caught.
