Local Congratulations for Mel Stitt Vancouver First Officer

Congratulations to Mel Stitt of Vancouver on earning his instrument rating and becoming First Officer. He will fly as Co-pilot on the Dew Airlift from Edmonton. The W I ner ticket holder was Tom Petrick of Brandon. Jack Stitt attends the Postmasters Convention in Brandon this week. Gordon Reynolds of Rivers spent Sunday at the Walter Armstrong home with Mrs Reynolds and boys. A 90th birthday is set for July 19. Mr and Mrs C A Menzies spent Sunday at Binscarth.

Grandmother's Tea Draws Quilt and Blanket Winners

The Vista W1 held a Grandmother's Tea in the community hall on Thursday July 12 with 15 members present. A quilt and a blanket were awarded in a draw to Miss Jean Armstrong Rossburn and Mr Bill Frazer Franklin. The group planned a tea and shower in the church annex for Rossburn Hospital on August 11 and set September's meeting at Mrs Dora Chesneys with hostesses Mrs Flo rence Stitt and Mrs Dora Chesney.

Wheat Sales Prospects Bright

Ottawa reports the 1956 review shows overseas exports at 214,044,000 bushels from August 1955 to June 1956, up from 179,976,000 last year. The Wheat Board’s price policy stabilized markets, while an aggressive sales approach and global trade missions aided exports including to Communist countries.

Rossburn Fair Enjoys Thrills Amid Threatening Skies

Despite threatening weather the 47th Rossburn Fair and Sports proceeded with horse races baseball tournament and midway attractions. Shoal Lake and Rossburn clubs delivered strong showings in the three team event with Shoal Lake defeating Rossburn in the final. Midway shows Harmony Kings and Sandys drew fans while livestock and farm machinery displays impressed attendees. Results list include mile race Kilmister Grandview first Grey Russell second and others with several divisions noted.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Dora Mushey in Angusville

Mrs Dora Mushey widow of Nicholas Mushey died at her daughter’s home aged 86 years 2 months 15 days She was born April 7 1870 in Austria and came to Canada in 1912 Survived by five daughters and five sons with 38 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren The Greek Orthodox service led by Rev Rebulka was at 10 am June 26 in Angusville cemetery.

Community Farewell Held For Mr and Mrs H Middlemass

A large crowd gathered Friday evening in Rossburn to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. H Middlemass before their departure for Nee pawa. Fred Clarke served as master of ceremonies and introduced the musical numbers. Mayor Earl Moffat presented a community purse to the couple. Harry spoke for the two as they expressed gratitude and appreciation for the evening. A lunch was served.

Oakburn Hails 25th Anniversary and Bridal Shower

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Adam Luhowy on their 25th wedding anniversary held July 14 in Oakburn. A bridal shower for Marion Shwaluk took place July 7 at the Ukrainian National Hall with corsages and a luncheon as attendees celebrated the bride elect. The community also expresses sympathy to the Gerelus family on the loss of their 1% year old daughter and notes a 50th wedding anniversary for Mr and Mrs Steve Nywiek on July 12.
