Next Tuesday July 17 marks the 47th Annual Rossburn Exhibition and Sports with forecasts from the weatherman predicting a record day. The mayor proclaims the afternoon a holiday to boost vides and side shows, promising a stronger fair than last year.
Birth notice for Archie and Mrs. Smith of Rossburn reports a son born on July 9 at Rossburn Hospital. The brief item confirms the family surname and birthplace with no additional details.
L W Michaichuk of Angusville died after a brief illness and funeral rites were held in Angusville and Winnipeg. Services were led by Rev P Bozyk and Rev Ziepko with interment at Lakedale Holy Ghost Cemetery. Survived by widow Mary Lisowecki and eight siblings. The obituary notes his teaching career, army service, real estate work, and community involvement.
The appointment of Harris Huston was announced on Tuesday to the new three member commission. Barnard Halstead, former secretary to the Bracken Liquor Enquiry Commission, was named chairman. Huston will serve as a part time member with another part time member yet to be named. The Review extends congratulations on the appointment.
A July 5 1956 jubilee marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Michael Glushka in Rossburn. High Mass at the Ukrainian Catholic Church opened the event, followed by a banquet in the Parish Hall and a program of speeches songs and an accordion solo.
Faye line Frances Chegwin married William John Carson in a July 4 ceremony at St Andrews United Church Vista officiated by Pastor Roset. Attendants included aunt Velma Hamilton and flower girl Marlene Brown. A reception followed with over a hundred guests and a confetti sendoff.
Marshall Wells store in Rossburn drew 1,486 visitors over its three opening days Friday Saturday and Monday. Official ceremonies were Friday morning though a commemorative photo was not yet received. Prize winners included Walter Antonin for a 66 piece dinner set and various Zenith Freezers and Refrigerators awards to named individuals.
Rossburn District Hospital informs residents of information meetings about the hospital money by law vote. Meetings are scheduled for Rossburn on the 20th Vista and Mears on the 23rd Ruthenia and Olha on the 24th Valley School and Marco on the 25th at 8 30 PM. The notice stresses the vote’s impact on future hospital capacity staff conditions and financing including possible grants and taxpayer costs.
Rossburn council met Saturday July 7 with Reeve Ed Shust presiding. A building committee was named to oversee a machine shed on the Agricultural grounds. Applications to the Department of Public Works for special road grants were discussed, with ratepayers agreeing to cover one third. The Reeve may hire a Manitoba land surveyor for drainage and ditch work. Continued on Page Eight.
