Oakburn Centennial Day An Outstanding Success

Oakburn celebrated its Centennial on June 29 1967 with an inter faith service at a historic site, a grand parade featuring floats from nearby towns, a banquet, and the opening of the Oakburn Recreational Centre. Local dignitaries and leaders spoke as hundreds attended events including a fastball tournament, Ukrainian crafts display, and an open air concert with street dancing and fireworks.

Baseball Play-off Opens at Local Fair

Rossburn's Bantam A base ball entry meets Rivers in the provincial play-offs opening round. First game scheduled July 18 at 6 30 p.m. the day of the local Fair. This match should boost the Sports program.

A week of moderate weather featured a high near 81 degrees on Saturday and a low around 44 degrees early Thursday. Rainfall was recorded with heavier showers north of town on Saturday.

Rossburn Women's Institute Meeting Summary

Rossburn Women's Institute met in the annex on July 4 at 3 00 pm chaired by Mrs McIntosh in Mrs Moans absence. They donated 50 to the Centennial Committee and W L will serve hot dogs pie and sandwiches at the Rossburn Fair on July 18. Smorgasbord by the institute and hospital aid was a success. Next jackpot donated by Mrs Olive McTavish. No August meeting.

House warming for Bilanka family at 136 Winston Rd

An evening gathering on June 17 hosted a house warming for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bilanka and family in St. James Winnipeg. Out of town relatives attended from Rossburn and Brandon while city friends later joined on June 23 to offer congratulations. Guests contributed money and buffet suppers were served on both occasions.

Paul Manley Appointed Assistant Professor at Windsor

Paul L. Manley, former Rossburn student, becomes assistant professor in the mathematics department at the University of Windsor in Ontario. Born in Rossburn Manitoba, he holds a teacher's certificate and degrees from Manitoba and Alberta, and expects a Ph.D. this September. Previously taught at Kamloops Secondary School and the University of Alberta. He is the son of Mrs. Mychasin and the late Peter Mychasiw.

Rossburn Seniors Claim Bredenburg Tournament Victory

The Rossburn Seniors won the Bredenburg Tournament final 12-1 against Bredenburg after earning a default game exit and beating Langenburg to reach the final. Don Luhowy pitched in the opener and Tony Kalechyn earned the win with a two hitter.
