Village of Rossburn Special Meeting notes by law and bids

The Rossburn village council met in special session led by Mayor Earl Moffat with all members present. The second reading of the Hospital By-Law and the submission by law were approved. Tenders opened included Jim Sherritt at 32 dollars per month for one complete pick-up per month and were accepted. The council discussed fire fighting equipment and considered purchasing a truss with a 600 gallon tank and hoses similar to the Angusville fire truck before adjourning.

Sileage Field Day set for Tuesday July 10 at Bor Mitchell's Farm, sponsored by Crop Improvement Club with Extension Service and Dept. of Agriculture speakers. Local implement companies will show machinery. All farmers welcome. Volunteer help requested to roof the Grandstand at Fairground and for the July 12 Clean-up Day.

Shower In Honor Of Faye Chegwin

The community hosted a decorative shower for bride elect Faye Chegwin on July 4. Guests presented corsages to her mother grandmother and groom’s mother while Betty Mackedenski and Florence Brown helped with gifts. Over ninety attendees signed the guest book before songs and well wishes.

Funeral Rites For Co C Collins In Rossburn

Chester Charles Collins aged 72 of Vivian Manitoba died Saturday June 30. Born in Michigan 1884 he came to Rossburn 1887 and farmed before moving to town. Surviving wife May two sons Ernie and Cliff both of Winnipeg one stepson Donald two daughters Delia McKinnon and Effie Hetherington, three brothers John Tom Lester and a sister Mrs Jas Prout. Funeral was at Rossburn United Church Tuesday at 2 pm with Mr. Thos Ferguson in charge.

Sunday School Picnic at Vista Ends Week of Fun

A Vista area Sunday School picnic at Howard Hamilton’s lake drew sixty attendees. Mrs. Hugh Armstrong donated a gift to Mr. Millard, who led games and races organized by him and assisted by adults. The day closed with singing of Taps as Elgin and Gerald Brown accompanied Mr. Millard to Winnipeg.

A large group of friends met Thursday evening at Mr and Mrs Walter Days home to wish the best to Mrs Margaret Geen of Margarets. Harris Huston spoke briefly and Mrs Geen expressed appreciation for the gathering.

The Marshall Wells store in Rossburn opens this Friday at 10 am as a locally important event marking expansion by Rudy Scheriosii from the Rossburn furniture business. Scheriosii recently acquired the hardware business of J L Blaskiewicz and moved stock to renovated premises with R Pott of Marshall Wells Co Ltd installing new fixtures. the public is invited during the three opening days to tour, participate in a draw, and join the official 10 am opening.
