Eleven readers organize a 7 p.m. service at Stuart's Lake with Rev. Nixon from Rossburn officiating. Those at the United Church or needing transport should meet at Rossburn United Church at 6:30 p.m. for rides to the lake. everyone urged to be on time.
To our many friends in Ross burn and district we express sincere thanks for acts of kindness shown during the bereavement in the death of our little son Ward. Dro and Mrs. W. A. Shaver.
A plot owner reports vandalism at Ressburn Cemetery with several headstones toppled and asks for cooperation to repair the sacred ground. The note emphasizes the cemetery’s poor condition and urges responsible individuals to return monuments to their places.
Mrs M BR Hamilton mother of two daughters G A Shaw and L W Collins died after illness in Rossburn Hospital. Born August 10 1865 in Todmorden England she came to Canada in 1896 and married in 1897. Survived by husband two daughters eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at Rossburn United Church followed by interment at Rossburn cemetery with pallbearers Wesley Williamson Gordon Taylor William Hamilton Claire Peden Wilson Stitt and Ronald Hamilton.
Plans are advanced for a Junior Baseball and Softball Tournament to be held in Rossburn on Wednesday July 7. A large number of entries are expected and a capacity crowd is likely if weather is favorable. Entries must be with secretary O R Hodge in Rossburn by 6 pm July 6.
Indian sports festival scheduled near Rossby at Lizard Point spans Thursday through Saturday. Events include football and softball on Saturday and a daily Indian pow wow each evening with no admission, parade at 1 30 p m Thursday.
We thank our many friends in Rossburn for kindness and sympathy during our recent sad bereavement. M. R. Hamilton, daughters, and grandchildren.
Oakburn United Church held its annual meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J a W Smith on Monday evening. Reports from the Stewards and Women's Association were favorable. Dr P N Murray chaired and presented the Session report. Retiring Stewards were re elected and Wilfred Eastcott named to a one year term. Acknowledgment was given to the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church for use of the facility. A farewell gift honored Dr P N Murray and the congregation noted their upcoming departure from the Shoal Lake charge.
KBURN Mr J W Smith visited Winnipeg last week as a business guest. Miss Lecia Antonation and Rennie Antonation visit Brandon relatives this week. Mr Michael Kottick and daughter Marlene of Brandon visited town last week. Mrs Peter Kondra and children Zenon and Marusia from Winnipeg stayed with Kondra parents. Mr and Mrs Nick Zubrack were in town last week. Melvin Unickow of Winnipeg visits his father Nathan Unikow and rekindles old school friendships. Miss dJovee Smith visits her uncle and aunt. Mr and Mrs M Kottiek with cousins Marlene and Linda Kottiek in Brandon this week.
A fair crowd attended a dance in Mears hall on June 21. A farewell party honored Mr. and Mrs. Bonchut. Doris Sawehuk of Drumheller Alberta visited with her parents. Miss Matilda Oryniuk of Winnipeg visited friends including Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kozun. Miss Marie Myehasin completed teaching duties and returned home to Otha.
Ekford reports Mr. and Mrs. Chas Whyman of Rossburn visiting with friends. Mrs. M Lupal of Winnipeg visited her father Mr. Dave Cameron. Archie Cameron has a carpenter working on his mother's house. Ed Collingridge received tractor parts from the States and has it in corking order.
A June church service at the Greek Orthodox Church drew a large crowd followed by dinner at the Ukrainian Hall. Steven Der Lach passed his diesel engineering diploma after Edmonton exams. An Anniversary Dinner in Angusville succeeded despite rain. A Russell C.N.R. film program showcased the Royal Wedding and 1946 events. A reception in Riverton Hall honored Mr and Mrs Donald Mcleod married at Dauphin June 4. Local improvements include new pool room and homes. Miss Jeanette Derkach wedding gifts, including a baby carriage, were celebrated with a pretty shower at Mrs Voke’s home.
