Rossburn Credit Union Annual Meet
The 7th Annual meeting of the Rossburn Credit Union Society was held January 22 at 8 p m in the Town Hall. Attendees totaled 42 members and 2 visitors. Membership stood at 145 with 39 472 in shares and 47 587 loaned to members in the year. A 4 percent dividend and 20 percent interest rebate were approved. E L Summerfield addressed the gathering. Officers for 1960: L C Johnston president Bert Mitchell vice president J D Andrew secretary George Lawless Ed Shust Adolph Kostesky directors. Funeral service conducted last Monday at Oakburn Greek Catholic Church for Alex S Matiowski 72 who died after a long illness in Shoal Lake Hospital Rev P Romanyshyn presiding Burial followed in Oakburn cemetery Matiowski born in Western Ukraine arrived Canada in 1900 with parents settling in Leech district He later homesteaded there until 1936 moved to Oakburn district four years farming retired after a serious accident Survived by four sons Michael Peter of Menzie Walter Shoal Lake Frank Oakburn a daughter Mrs M Dunits Menzie five brothers four sisters 15 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren.

Anastasia Drul aged 65 wife of John Drul of Menzie Manitoba died Friday night January 15 at Shoal Lake Hospital. Born in Skalat Ukraine she came to Canada in 1911 settling near Oakburn. Funeral service conducted Wednesday at 10:00 am at Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church Menzie with burial at local cemetery. Pallbearers listed including Boris Drul Dick Prul and others.

Rossburn Intermediates, badly short handed with eight regulars, lost a tight 6-5 decision to Elphinstone Monday. Pasiuk scored four for Rossburn, Kowal deked the goalie for a 4-2 in the third, Waytowich tied at 5-5 with 25 seconds left, then a fluke blue line shot gave Elphinstone the win long after. Ed Carson and Chesley Seaton shone as last-minute fillers helping the eight-regular roster.
