In a letter to the editor, Birdtail Sub. urges farmers to consider a buyers strike to pressure mail order houses after reports of losses tied to southern areas around Brandon. He cites limited harvest, calls for collective action, and questions politicians’ responsiveness. He invites further views.
The W I Corner presents a sausage corn pudding recipe serving six. It uses 1 lb sausages, 2 cups canned corn, 2 eggs, salt and pepper. Boil sausages briefly then mix corn with eggs and seasonings, bake with sausages on top at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. A kitchen hint adds soda to tomatoes to prevent curdling.
Funeral service for 83 year old Harry Sotas who died after a short illness in Concordia Hospital Winnipeg was held at the Rossburn Greek Orthodox Church with burial in Glen Elmo Cemetery. Rev J Kulash officiated and prayers were said in Kerrs Funeral Chapel Winnipeg. Survived by three daughters Mary Skomorowski Ssgirth Laura Skomorowsk Grandview Anne Fawcett Winnipeg and two sons Charles Chicago and Michael at home and eleven grandchildren. Pallbearers W Waiho George Hlagie John Plant Wm Bilanka Fred Belbas and Wm Kuzenko.
Max Danylyshyn, a pioneer of the Olha district, died after a long illness at Rossburn Hospital on January 23 at age 79. Born in western Ukraine, he homesteaded near Seech and later moved to the Olha area. He is survived by his wife Anne, a daughter Mary Sitko of Terrace Bay Ontario, and a son Mike at home, plus two grandchildren. Raginski Funeral Home arranged services with Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church rites at Seech and burial in the local cemetery.
Shoal Lake defeated Rossburn 5-3 in MAHA playoff action. Mc Kay scored twice for Shoal Lake with single goals from Mowbay Kawa and Brown. For Rossburn Hamilton Eshelby S Strank and P Strank scored. Next game moves to Rossburn Monday with another game at home.

The Balmer Rogers skip team with Isaac Kaskin Albert Zentner and Ken Cameron reached the finals in a Birtle North Western Bonspiel event, losing to the Findlay rink of Shoal Lake. They earned 2nd prize Brownie Hawkeye flash camera and placed 3rd in the Grand Challenge secondary event after winning 10 of 13 games, and were the only rink to defeat McCaw of Minot a Grand Aggregate winner.
The Rossburn Fire Brigade responded to four calls last week including a total house loss at M. F. Smyeniuk corner of Railway and Second Ave. A second call to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin MacDonald on King Street involved smoke damage from a furnace chimney pipe. Subsequent chimney fires hit W. Strank on Mountain Ave and the Tokar residence after a hockey game. The Angusville brigade assisted on one incident.
Out of town mourners attended the funeral service, including John Kuch, Joe Kuch, and Alex Kuch from Dauphin, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Matlowsky of Selsgirth, and Mrs. Nick Trach of Port Arthur Ontario, with names reflecting a regional gathering.
Mr and Mrs C HR Kester spent the weekend at Wawa Newsa.
Oakburn Bantams beat Vista Bantams 3 2 on Saturday January 30. Scorers for Oakburn were Luhowy Wavrick and teammates with assists from Locke Nowosad Chwaluk Raginski Yanick Malchuk and others. Vista players listed include Miller Rogers Young Luhowy Locke Brown W Chegwin and others.
Two games Sunday January 31 at Oakburn featured Powder Puffs beating Battle Axes 3 1 with goals from Skavinsky Gregorash Osadec and others. Oakburn Bears defeated Rossburn Bombers 5 1 with Joiner scoring for Rossburn and Muzylowski Waytowich Michalyshyn among Oakburn scorers.
The Rossburn Agricultural Society held a Monday meeting with 13 members present. A July 15 fair date was set and plans include cement and shingles purchase for a new Agricultural Hall. A Bingo is planned this month and a dance with Terry and his Terriers may occur April 22 if the hall is available.
