4 H Achievement Night Report at Sewing Sisters event
The Jan 17 Achievement Day showcased 4H Sewing Sisters with aprons on display judged by district home economist Miss Louise Batho. Penny McKnight’s apron was chosen for Brandon and Virden fairs. seven girls aged ten and eleven entered a public speaking contest with Sandra Aylwin and Wilma Sotas advancing to district finals.

Funeral Rites Held for Accident Victim Cheryl Kowalchuk
The 3 year old Cheryl Ann Kowalchuk died in a residence accident at Oakburn home of Mr and Mrs Mike Kowalchuk. Rossburn Hospital Aid meets at Gunn home
January meeting of the Rossburn Hospital Aid had 14 members and 2 visitors. Miss A Haymen, matron of the Hospital, spoke. A February shower for Nurses living quarters was planned and a 4 slice toaster for the Hospital Kitchen was funded. The M Shingoose baby received the first baby spoon of the year. Mrs. P C Watts won the fruit cake. Thanks were given to Mary Topolinski, and to Mrs. Gunn and Mrs. Langridge for 1961 programs. Next meeting set for Isabel Huston’s home on February 28.

Local Tom Thumbs Stay Undefeated In Hockey Night
Local Tom Thumbs beat Rossburn 14 to 1 as Tom Thur led Rossburn and Tom Thumbs remain unbeaten. Standings crown Lorne Ducharme 23 points, Brian Brown 22, Glenn Carson 14, Dennis Brykaluk 8, David Chegwin Dwain Lawless Russell Brown five each. Two hockey games slated Friday February 3 with Tom Thumbs vs Elphinstone and High School Club vs Elphinstone. Also Bingo February 1 in Town Hall basement sponsored by Rossburn COF with every other prize a ham.

Public Address System Upgrades Local Arena
The town enhances the arena with a four outside speaker setup and interior units for upstairs and downstairs waiting rooms. A new PA booth on the second floor and an automatic record player will play music for skaters and announce lineups goal scorers penalties and the national anthem at hockey games. The project complements the donated scoreboard and clock and aims to be ready for the next home game.

The January nights 23 and 24 set Rossburn temperature records with an official low of minus 40.2 degrees, surpassing the prior low of minus 37.3 from December 17, 1956. Valley readings unofficially reached 52. Oil burners froze as fuel lines congealed, while a week earlier January highs reached 41.3 above zero.
