Local rink wins prize at Russell

Rossburn rink from Norman earns a prize at Russell Bonepiel curling event, finishing fourth with an 8 6 victory over Hartung rink of Langenburg. N Major rink posts 5 wins 3 losses, with defeats by Coulter of Silverton and L Schwalm. J Lindsay rink also shows effort but fails to reach prizes.

Seis School Hi-Lites Dance Candidates Announced

The student council sponsors a February 1 dance with music by the Langenburg Merry Makers. Miss Rossburn Collegiate voters select among Marie Hingie Elaine Cleland Lydia Trakalo Peggy Hamilton for graduation. Curling rounds proceed with ten rinks in play. Council funds spent include 70 projector 60 scholarship 30 radio 10 hot plate 20 table tennis 50 skating 5 punching bag 12 footballs 5 record machine. They also supported Winnipeg High School Curling graduation exercises and the 1955 Christmas Concert with 10 in the red. The council aims to liaison with staff foster leadership promote public relations and assist community enterprises. Mrs W Campbell of Onanole is ill in Erickson Hospital.

A daughter was born January 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hamilton of Rossburn. A daughter arrived January 12 to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Obedniak of Glen Elmo. A son was born January 13 to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shingoose.

E L Turley Dies in Victoria After Long Manitoba Stay

Earl Lewis Turley of 1451 Hillside Ave Victoria B C died in Victoria after a long career including 23 years as CNR Station Agent in Angusville and retirement in 1952. He leaves a widow two sons Lewis and Bud four grandchildren a sister and three brothers. Funeral held January 9 at Chaplin's Funeral Chapel with burial at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Canadian Pacific names D B Wallace as PR department manager

D B Wallace born in Halifax Nova Scotia and an Acadia University arts graduate has been appointed manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway public relations department. He has served as assistant manager since 1945 after roles with the Halifax Chronicle Canadian Press and the Financial Post and earned an MA in economics from the University of Toronto in 1934.

Farewells Honor Clarke Family

Rossburn and district residents bid farewell to Mr and Mrs F Clarke before their departure for work with the Dept of Indian Affairs in northern Manitoba. Earl Moffat cited Clarke’s community service as others shared memories and gifts were presented. A separate Waywayseecappo farewell at the school honored the Clarke family with speeches, lamps, money envelopes, dancing and lunch.

Funeral Service For M. G. Crookshanks

Funeral services were held at the Rossburn United Church on Saturday January 12 for Maynard Grant Crookshanks who died the prior Tuesday. The service was led by Mr T Ferguson and burial followed in Rossburn Cemetery. Born in Waterloo Ontario he was 54 and moved with his parents to the Birdtail valley district about 51 years ago. He married Marion Smith in 1932 and they lived in town from 1933. Survived by wife Marion sons Bob and Gordon daughter Marlene one brother Mervyn and two sisters Mrs C Palmer and Mrs C Brown. Pallbearers were Eugene Caldwell Matt Pokrapany Henry Miller Earl Taylor Bob Stitt and Alex Cleland.

Funeral Rites for Mrs Robert Brown Held in Rossburn

The funeral service for Mrs. Robert Brown was held January 14 in the Rossburn Town Hall with burial in Rossburn cemetery. The service was conducted by T A Pollock assisted by Rev I Roset. Pallbearers listed, widow and children noted, including surviving husband, two sons, four daughters, and seven grandchildren.
