Rossburn Rural Municipality held its regular monthly meeting on December 16 1974 in Rossburn with Reeve John Mitchell presiding. Motions include adopting November minutes approving a door tender for Don Hrubeniuk funding fire pump retention and plans for a fire truck, adding a Vista street light and appointing a municipal inventory officer.
On behalf of Mr. and Mrs. John Charney we thank relatives and friends for honoring their 60th wedding anniversary with Mass gifts flowers and cards on January 9. Special thanks to Father Lehky for the Mass plaque and blessings from Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk and to John Glushka for leading the choir. Gratitude to the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for flowers and to out of town well wishers.
A Rossburn village special meeting on December 30 1974 appointed Jean Herchak and Nick Gensiorek as joint caretakers for the Town Hall and public washrooms. They will serve a three month probation starting January 1 1975.
Congratulations go to D. D. Hamilton and his wife Eva Lawless of Rossburn who marked their 65th wedding anniversary on January 5th. The couple’s milestone honors family and community members alike.
A letter from Blantyre Malawi dated 4 December 1974 thanks the Rossburn Manitoba Lions Club for shipping used spectacles. The Spectacle Bank has distributed over 11 000 pairs free of charge and requests continued donations of plus power lenses to help needy recipients.
Hockey action was sparse due to weekend storms. On January 9 in Elkhorn, Rossburn fell 7 to 2, and on January 4 in Rossburn Fleming lost 6 to 5 in overtime. Scoring details will appear in the next issue.
The Rossburn Village Council held its December 17 1974 meeting in Council Chambers to discuss multiple motions. They tabled a decision on the Lagoon Expansion Project pending further information while approving minutes licensing changes and other municipal actions.
All three Rossburn teams played through the holidays with the i4 and under squads posting the only win. The 8 and under team shows progress and may enter the Angusville tournament. New Year dance was a success and a similar event is planned next year. A raffle awarded first prize a radio donated by Scarrow’s Hardware to Ron Brandon. second prize $15 to Peter Bilas. third prize $10 to Mike Zenchyshyn. A hockey tournament for 10 and under is planned for Jan 25, with tentative dates for 12 and 14 year olds, and a delegation will seek improved dressing room facilities at the local rink.
