Grants Approved For Many Manitoba Communities

Capital cost sharing grants totaling 232172 were approved for 19 communities across the province. Tourism Minister Rene Toupin announced the second lottery funded allocation, equating to about 2 per capita in non Winnipeg areas, with several listed projects in Silver Creek, Shellmouth, Birtle, Erickson, and Tamarish. More than one jurisdiction may apply for a single facility and unincorporated communities within municipalities may apply for full grants.

The sixth annual Rossburn Elementary Science Fair will be held Friday January 24 with judging from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Public viewing runs 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Students from Rossburn Elementary School present their scientific endeavours.

Unseasonably Mild January Dominates Weather Report

January shows generally mild, changeable weather with temperatures well above normal. Only two truly cold days so far this winter. A weekend storm around January 10-11 produced strong winds but little new snow, mainly affecting a mail truck.

Glad to hear Melvin Woychyshyn is home after surgery

Oakburn reports Melvin Woychyshyn back from Brandon Hospital after surgery. Leaf Rapids visitors included Mr and Mrs L Parabee and family at the Luhowy home. Banff vacationers were Mr and Mrs Peter Lamb for two weeks. Winnipeg guests visited Nick Zubrack during Christmas. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Mike Zemliak on a baby girl born January 14. Ukrainian Christmas at Peter Ma duke home with Clement Der lago of St Boniface. Luhowy and Coulson families hosted visits from Lethbridge Sandy Lake and Winnipeg. Mrs Citulsky is home after five weeks in Winnipeg and Rivers.

Richard Klass of the Manitoba Beef Growers urges livestock producers to contact MPs to protest a 15 percent rise in rail freight charges. He cites pressure on a unprofitable live stock sector and concerns over US feeder cattle imports for 90 day feeds. Producers seek immediate relief amid price depressions and collaborate with the Manitoba Cow Calf Producers Association.

Wedding Bells at St Andrews Musselburgh Scotland 1974

Marilyn Ann Tutkaluk and John Paterson wed in a double ring ceremony at St Andrew s Church Musselburgh on November 15 1974 officiated by Reverend Laird. The bride wore winter crepe with lace and a long veil and carried coral and white roses. The reception was at Stair Arms Hotel Pathead with out of town guests listed. The couple will reside in Edinburgh.

Angusville and Rossburn Youth Hockey Weekend Events

A series of hockey tournaments and social events in Angusville and Rossburn. Angusville hosts midget and atom minor hockey on January 25 26 with early 12 30 start and 7 30 final, admission 1.00 adults 0.50 students. Rossburn hosts the game lineup with Birtle, a giant rummage sale, bingo, and a Vista mixed bonspiel entry deadline January 31. A February 8 9 hockey tournament for ages 10 and under is noted along with a dance February 14 at Vista Hall. Proceeds support Cub Scout funds.
