Village of Rossburn Inaugural Council Meeting Held

The Rossburn village council met January 2 1943 in the council chambers with Mayor J G Stitt and four councillors. By law 349 for officers and licences was read three times and passed. John Nahiriak reappointed as Village Constable and Hall Caretaker at 140 per month. Skating rink caretaker Vernon Hamilton hired at 110 per month for 1962 63 season. 1963 dog licences set unchanged at 3.50 for males and spayed females, 7.00 for unspayed females. licences due February 1 1963.

Vista U C W January Meeting Held At Mrs Miller Home

A Bible Study gathering under the Vista U C W is set for Tuesday evening at 8 at Mrs. M. Miller’s home January 15. The group will discuss The Word and the Way each 1st and 3rd Tuesday through winter and invites all who will come.

Vista Scout and Cub Notes Meet on January 7

The Vista Group Committee for Boy Scouts held a January 7 meeting at Mrs. R. B. Clayton home led by Willis Stitt. Scoutmaster F. Steele and E. McNulty discussed forming a Scout Troop and Cub Pack, sponsorship by Vista VI, and supporter cards. A Whist Drive was planned for January 18 at Vista Hall to raise funds for program books and equipment.

Rossburn Women Meet for Jan 8 Session with Fudge Sample

Rossburn Women's Institute met in the annex at 3 pm Tuesday Jan 8. Mrs McKnight served divinity fudge and shared recipe tips. Mrs Ukrainetz spoke on Civil Defence, Miss Fox ran a projector for a Civil Defence film, and Mrs Wilson Stitt won the jackpot. Members are reminded to donate March of Dimes cards in January.

The Rossburn Intermediate Hockey Club announces a reorganizing effort and hosts Shoal Lake Intermediate at 8 30 p m this Saturday. Referee G Simms from Foxwarren officiates. Support is urged for future games.

Winners of Oakburn Novelty Bingo

The Oakburn Parish Hall event on December 14 crowned winners across categories. Prizes included perfumes, lamps, TV trays, walking dolls, kitchenware, barometers, and more with numerous consolation prizes and raffle awards listed for attendees and helpers.

Obituary William M. Cormack 78 Dies in Rossburn

William M. Cormack aged 78 died Sunday January 6 at Rossburn Hospital. Funeral service held Wednesday at 2 PM at Rossburn United Church with burial in Rossburn Cemetery. An obituary will be published in the next issue.

John Michael Yanyk obituary notices life in Oakburn

John Michael Yanyk died at Oakburn on December 24 at age 48. Born August 22 1914 in Oakburn district he served in the Canadian Army and belonged to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Mary two sons Michael and Russell a daughter Jean two programs and many siblings with funeral services held December 29 at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic church.
