The Manitoba Society of Seniors launches a national mail in campaign to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to express opposition to the goods and services tax. A seven pence coupon and a GST buck parody highlight the critique as round one boycott on January 18 and 19 drew strong attention nationwide.
The Red Cross, a 125 year old symbol of care, operates as the world’s largest volunteer health organization. It provides life saving aid daily, teaching First Aid and Water Safety to about 80,000 Manitobans each year and delivers blood products and disaster relief without regard to race or religion.
The first water main break of the 1990s occurred on Tuesday February 20 on Victoria Ave East in Rossburn. Workers broke through the frozen ground to reach the source as temperatures rose above freezing after a period of severe cold in Western Manitoba.
Manitoba announces Apr 1 price cuts for hospitality venues. The program lowers beer discounts for small rural hotels from 3,000 to 12,000 on a $100,000 purchase and cuts supplementary licence fees from 12 to 7 percent. New toll free order line and adjusted cheque timing accompany the changes expected to lift industry revenues by up to 3 million annually.
