More than 500 delegates and visitors travel to Saskatoon for the 61st annual Federated Co-operatives Limited meeting. The gathering reviews a record year with $85 million in net savings on $1.5 billion in sales and a $74.8 million patronage allocation.
At a February public meeting the Rossburn Agriculture Society voted to keep the Harvest Festival as a two day event but drop the rodeo street dance and parade. The festival will feature pari mutuel horse racing chuckwagons chariots big wagons tractor pull horse pull gymkhana exhibits baseball street bingo and kid friendly activities. The event occurs in August and aims to rejuvenate interest and cover a deficit from last summer.
Leonard Sitko reeve of Rossburn Rural Municipality accepts a $4,711 cheque from Greg Slywchuk on behalf of Len Derkach and Bonnie Mitchelson for the Manitoba Community Places Program. The money covers play equipment volleyball court at Rossman Lake Resort begun 1988 completed 1989. Walter Mentuck for Waywayseecappo Indian Band also received $6,241 for a Lizard Point Reserve multiplex building.
The Rossburn 7 and Anders claim top honors after a weekend championship final victory over Shoal Lake 6-5. Rossburn also led round robin with a 14-0 win over Decker, tied Shoal Lake 6-6, and beat Foxwarren 9-5 in the semi final. Full details in next week's Crossorads.
Chinook winds will push daytime highs to at least 60 under partly sunny skies through Saturday. Overnight lows will range from 7 to 10. No measurable precipitation is expected as winds hold steady at 30 to 40 km hr most days.
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council on February 13 unanimously decided not to suspend or terminate municipal clerk Ernie Antonow and assistant Diane Lawless despite allegations linked to the hazardous waste plant referendum. A special meeting on February 7 addressed claims including names added to cottage leases at Rossman Lake to influence voting. Solicitors Morris Butcher and Alex Aitken will draft a by law to create a new lease form for Rossman Lake Resort cottages with a single listed owner or occupier whose name appears on the Assessment Roll for property taxation under the Municipal Assessment Act.
