Former publisher wins MCNA life membership honor
WINNIPEG Staff Harry Aylwin former editor and publisher of The Rossburn Review received a Life Membership at the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association annual meeting in Winnipeg. Aylwin began in Plumas at 18 becoming Manitoba’s youngest editor and publisher. He purchased the Rossburn Review May 10 1954 started Erickson News later that year, sold both to focus on the Review, which he left after health reasons in 1979. The MCNA plaque was presented by CCCA president Bill Kennedy. his wife Helen received roses from the incoming MCNA president’s wife.

Chaloner New MCNA President Elected in Manitoba
Clayton Chaloner publisher of the Russell Banner was elected President of the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association at the annual meeting on February 19. He succeeds Don Venables of the Hamiota Echo. New vice presidents are Gary Lodwich and Bob Gilroy, with four board seats filled by Ian McKenzie Miles Phillips Bill Potter and Greg Nesbitt. A noon luncheon honored three junior citizens Pamela Tochor Shirley McMurray and Cynthia Yarchuk, with Lieutenant-Governor Pearl McGonigal in attendance.

The Rossburn Lions Club hosts a two day Winter Carnival February 27 and 28 featuring a Fish Derby at Rossman Lake from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturday, a Snowmobile Poker Derby with 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. registrations, a Town Hall cartoons event 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. for 25 cents, a Hoser Dance 9:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M. with the Back Bacon Five, an Ice Sculpture Contest, and on Sunday a Figure Skating Club show Ice Skating in Motion at 2:00 P.M. plus Carnival Queen Contest and races and Nevada.
