Agricultural Society Bingo Held Saturday Outstanding Success

The Roesburn Agricultural Society reports a successful bingo event with 156.70 realized. Prizes and donors include chocolates from Mrs. Langridge and Dan Keiz, oil from Co-op Store and H. Werbowski, tumblers from F Clarke and Mrs. G Lawless, a roast of beef from R. Stitt Ted Hanlan, and multiple other prizes to numerous winners.

Village Council Meets in Municipal Office

The regular Village Council meeting was held with the Mayor and three members present. The court of revision had no complaints, the 1956 business tax roll was adopted, the financial report and January constables report were approved, one request for relief failed, a by law transferred tennis court property to the pool, bills were approved, and the meeting adjourned to March 20.

Funeral held for John Kashton at Oakburn Greek Catholic Church

A funeral service for John Kashton age 49 was held Wednesday February 8 at the Greek Catholic Church in Oakburn. Rev P Romanyshyn officiated. Burial followed at Oakburn Greek Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Nelhiene, son Victor, mother, four daughters Ann Chobotiuk Oakburn Doris Hildur Winnipeg Victoria Pawaleki Winnipeg Mary Patterson Vancouver BC, brothers Peter Oakburn Joe Winnipeg Steve Edmonton.

Valentine Dance Crowned Queen At School Hi-Lites

The February 14 Valentine Dance at School Hi-Lites ended with Del Stitt crowning Joyce Mischanchuk Queen after selling the most votes. Princesses Elaine Cleland Irene Piasta and Lois McKnight received silver dollars. Prizes went to Jean Armstrong and John Charney. Gross intake neared $170. A Rossburn rink attended the Angus t school bonspiel with Ome rest Smytniuk Paul Mamalygo Vivian Cleland Irene Piasta Del Stitt Eddie Carson and Blaire Ukrainers. Smycniuk won a consolation prize and Stitt a Grand Chal prize. The yearbook staff was chosen and work will start. Mr Laboasiere, the School Inspector, visited this week.

A RMRA meeting at the Municipal Office on Monday February 20 had seven members present. Minutes adopted as read and financial report approved. Bills including the $15 water tank levy paid. A dress carnival with an exhibition hockey game was scheduled for Saturday March 17. Meeting adjourned.

Local Delegate Ai Convention at Souris Meeting

One member of the Souris congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses attended the Sou rs convention, with 227 peak attendance at the Sunday Public talk Overcoming the Fears of this Generation. Toronto district supervisor G H Saltmarsh delivered the cl imatic discourse Fear hangs over the entire world today in Souris Community Hall. He linked world fear to stockpiling and societal decay, noting crime and loose morals as related factors.

Vista W L held its monthly meeting at Mrs Ruth Rogers home on February 9 with seventeen members present. Mrs Florence McPhail was chosen as candidate for election to the district board. Mr H Jones principal of Is lay spoke about his hometown and surrounding country. The meeting adjourned after a lunch served by hostesses Mrs Nettie Hrysack and Mrs Ruth Rogers. The next meeting will be March 8 at Mrs Jessie Mackedenski home with hostesses Mrs Jessie Mackedenski and Mrs Stef ie Bilinsky.

Bell Baker Wedding Unites Baker and Bell Families
