Rossburn Rural Council approves grants and bylaws
The Rossburn Rural Municipality held its February 13 1973 meeting with Reeve John Mitchell and five councillors present. Motions carried include adopting January minutes approving 1972 and January 1973 financials increasing building insurance, designating travelling program officials, and authorizing attendance at a municipal law seminar and a regional tourism conference. A $250 Parkland Harvest Festival grant was approved with $150 returnable if a surplus occurs, a Red Cross donation of $50 approved, Welfare By Law 976 enacted, a licensing bylaw to be drafted, and accounts totaling 6356.34 approved for payment. The council adjourned to March 13 1973 at 1 PM.

At the regular meeting of the Rural Municipality of Silver Creek a by law on municipal assistance and a Sunday activity charging rule were discussed. A land transfer with Annie Magnowski was signed. Grants totaling 510 and accounts of 28140 were approved. Elmer Clearwater discussed weed control for 1973 and a public meeting. Delegates G Lyttle and E Williams spoke on road work and gravelling. A Silverton delegation sought action on lunch facilities closure by Health Department. Next meeting March 13 at 1 pm.

Debating Festival for Grade IX Girls at Portage la Prairie
A group of eight Grade IX girls will travel to Portage la Prairie for a Debating Festival starting Friday March 2. Activities include a welcome dance Friday a full day of debating Saturday and a final round Sunday afternoon with dignitaries expected from the Manitoba Legislature and Courts.

Chimo Days Carnival Moves to March Weekend
Rossburn Lions Club postponed the Chimo Days Carnival to March 9 10 11 due to competing events in nearby communities. The event opens Friday at the arena with costume judging races and a Schmockey game between the Girls Hockey Team and Rossburn Venturer Co. Saturday features minor hockey games and a popular figure skating show themed Dolls of Other Lands with a Carnival Queen crowning. Sunday offers snowmobile races after a queen opening, with entries urged and a demolition derby planned along with snowmobile rides and a wiener roast. Advance tickets available from Lions members.

Oakburn Cultural Committee Announces February Sessions
The Oakburn Cultural Committee reports a busy February with singing lessons led by Mrs. Helen Henderson on Feb 5 from 8 to 10:30 pm and Feb 12 from 7:30 to 10:30 pm, hosting 102 registrants. Dancing lessons ran Feb 10 10 am to 12 pm and Feb 17 10 am to 1 pm in Oakburn Elementary School, with 74 dancers registered plus 8 adults. Ukrainian costume and stitchery demonstrations, taught by Mrs. Minnie Andrechuk, saw 38 ladies in the first session Feb 12 7:30 to 10:30 pm. a Feb 17 session followed, with two organizers handling administration and language teaching respectively, and an Easter Egg writing lesson planned for March. By now 65 families have registered.
