Ice Carnival at Rossburn Arena on March 3

The Rossburn Lions Club hosts an Ice Carnival in the Rossburn Arena next Saturday March 3. Gates open at 7 00 p m with costume judging at 8 00 p m A Minnedosa Figure Skating group will perform and there will be a local 12 and under hockey game a tug of war on ice and standard races A Carnival Queen will be crowned with candidates Jean Armstrong Judy Huston and Mary Twerdowhlich Plan to attend for a gala evening of entertainment and entries

Prenatal Classes Planned in Three Manitoba Areas

A series of prenatal classes will be held in Russell Roblin and Birtle. In Russell the sessions run Mondays 2 to 4 p m starting March 19 at the Health Unit Office. Roblin offers Thursdays starting March 15 at Roblin District Hospital. Birtle classes occur Tuesdays 2 to 4 p m starting March 20 at the Health Unit Office. Public Health Nurse Miss T Ohori in Roblin handles registrations.

Cardale edges Rossburn 11 4 in playoff series opener

Cardale skated to an 11-4 win over Rossburn in the second round of Intermediate C. Kowal White Forsythe and Susinski scored for Rossburn, while Cardale led 3-1 after the first period and out-hustled the locals, forcing a deciding game Saturday possibly in Elphinstone. Harold Slow stood out with a near shutout until Graeme Shaw broke through with 22 seconds left. Nearly 300 fans watched the opener marked by penalties and Rossburn’s 24 minutes short-handed.

Rossburn Tom Thumbs Set to Host Minnedosa Saturday

Rossburn Tom Thumbs will play Minnedosa here Saturday afternoon at 2 30 in a two game total goal playoff. Rossburn earned the right by winning the Tom Thumb north division. The Minnedosa-Rossburn winner will face Oak River, the south division winners.

Rossburn Credit Union Meeting Notes February 12

The Rossburn Credit Union held its regular board meeting at 8 30 p m on February 12. Two membership applications were approved and the Supervisory reported auditing 56 pass books last month. Three board members attend a Cana Mutual Insurance Society dinner on February 20 to receive information on credit union insurance for members. A motion was passed to charge 12 percent interest on loans for 1962, unchanged. The next board meeting is scheduled for March 12 at 8 00 p m.

Indian Reserves To Be Included For Welfare Benefits

Manitoba expands welfare coverage to about 2200 Indians from seven bands at Portage la Prairie Indian Agency. Under a new federal provincial agreement the Children's Aid Society will receive funding for adoption and child protection services for Treaty Indians. Bands named include Gambler, Waywayseecappo, Oak River, Oak Lake, Rolling River, Birdtail Sioux and Keeseekoowenin.

February 1962 Rossburn Village Council Meeting Highlights

The Village of Rossburn council met February 20 1962 in the council chambers with Mayor J G Stitt and councillors Wladyka Aylwin Antonin Droscoski present. They approved minutes financial report January 1962 constables report and bills totaling 1580 58. They scheduled the next meeting for March 20 1962 at 8 pm as Court of Revision and regular meeting to follow.

Legion Bonspiel Held At Rossburn With Eight Rinks

A Legion Bonspiel took place in Rossburn on Saturday with eight rinks. First Event winners were Ken Cameron first and Balmer Rogers second. Second Event winners were Peter Wladyka first and Vince Barlow second of Vista.

Cattlemen Attend Graham School for Intensive Insemination Training

George Radford of Rossburn Manitoba enrolls in the Graham School for Cattlemen in Garnett Kansas for a week of on farm instruction in artificial insemination and herd management. The school founded in 1909 by Frank B Graham offers live animal demonstrations and personalized guidance, attracting students from the United States and abroad.

4-H Intermediate Public Speaking Finals Here

The finals were held in the school auditorium on Friday evening. Six contestants competed: Jean Glenn Strathclair Elaine Maryniuk Rossburn Raymond Salmon Birtle Diane Preston Shoal Lake Janet Johnston Rossburn Frances Whetter of Birtle. Jean Glenn won first, Diane Preston second, and Raymond Salmon third. prizes were presented by L C Johnston for the Agricultural Society.

Rossburn Teams Sweep Hockey and Basketball Games

High school sports recap shows Rossburn hockey wins 6-0 at Cardale and 7-4 at home against Strathclair. In basketball, Rossburn boys fall 71-28 at Russell on Feb 12. Feb 18 sees Russell visiting Rossburn for girls 41-27 and boys 61-17 wins by Russell.
