Care Needed After Heavy Winter In Rossburn

After four months of heavy firing stoves furnaces and pipes are full of flammable soot and dirt. Homeowners are urged to clean their heating equipment or hire a capable town worker. While chimney fires have been avoided this winter more cold weather remains and a fire could cause serious loss of goods and life.

Brandon College Stages Diary of Anne Frank in City Hall

Brandon College Literary Board staged the Diary of Anne Frank in the city hall auditorium last week. The cast, directed by Edith Laycock, featured Elaine Hutton as Anne Frank Claire Davies as Mr Frank Lorna Watt as Mrs Frank and Ed Win Holtzman as Peter Van Dam. The production included 10 actors and 18 backstage staff and marked the board’s first foray into serious drama in years. Senior stick Ron Keeler welcomed the audience.

Vista Curling Club Third Annual Bonspiel Winners

The Vista Curling Club held its third annual bonspiel with three events. Winners include Walter Shwaluk and Doug Jower in Event 1, J Malanchuk and J Olson in Event 2, and W Armstrong and Stitt in Event 3. Walter Armstrong’s rink from Rossburn won Largest End. The club thanks all helpers, especially the ladies who baked for lunch.

Pelly Trails Bonspiel At Binscarth Draws 16 Rinks

The Pelly Trail Bonspiel held February 10 at Binscarth drew 16 rinks including Russell E and Lazaruk teams. Winners were Zimmer rink of Russell for the Pelly Trail Cup and Katchin rink of Angusville for the Teachers Trophy. Trophies awarded by William Burnett and James Moran. a Memorial Hall dance followed the presentations.

Mrs. Mary Klym led by Lorna Veitch Jean Michalchuk and Nellie Lazaruk captured the First Event at the Angusville Ladies Bonspiel held February 26 and 27, earning top honors and first prize.

Wladyka Rink Wins Oakburn Mixed Bonspiel

Peter Wladyka and teammates Or est Smyeniuk George Lazaruk and John Macyshyn topped the Oakburn Mixed Bonspiel in the main event. They claimed First Prize and took barbecue stands as their prize.

Locals eliminated in third game of provincial series

Rossburn ended provincial play off hopes with a 7-3 loss to Cardale in Elphin. Cardale led 2-1 after one period and 3-2 after two. Rossburn committed penalties at the start of the third, letting Cardale capitalize and end the locals' bid. A large home crowd watched as the team, despite talent from nearby towns, failed to match potential.

Ladies Bonspiel at Wimmers with multiple rinks and prizes

The Ladies Spiel at Wimmers featured ten rinks on Feb 23 24 with six local teams and players from Vista Angusville and Russell. Grand Challenge winners were Lorna Veitch Kaye A ment Avis Stitt and Beryl Williamson with Roby Mitchell Jean Armstrong Jean Michalchuk and Mabel Armstrong as runners up. Consolation winners included Anne Drosdoski Gail Mitchell Nellie Lazaruk and Jean Perchaluk with several other top finishers. Mrs Craig earned Perths Dry Cleaning Certificate for the Bigger End.

Sandy Lake Collegiate Official Opening Set for March 7

Residents of Sandy Lake and surrounding districts will attend the official opening of the new Sandy Lake Collegiate on March 7 at 8 p m The event reflects the village history and educational progress since rail development and school growth from 1903 to 1960 Enrollment figures show 196 in elementary and 88 in the collegiate with a total of 284 students The 1960 consolidation united Sandy Lake with several nearby districts and the Rolling River School Division now oversees the new four room collegiate.
