Mullins Event crowned A Chaytor first and J Kostiak second, J J Cross third, G Ament fourth. Consolation went to B White first and H Kalyniak second. Big End prize went to L Parobec.

February meeting of the Women's Institute was hosted at Mrs. W. Clayton's home with Mrs. R. C. Bamford, a District Past President, as guest. Florence MacPhail spoke on a Scotland holiday shared with Alex last October. lunch by Mrs. Clayton and Mrs. Berney concluded the gathering.

The United Church Women's Meeting was held in the An nex on Wednesday Feb 14 with 21 members and 3 visitors. Mrs Lorna Veitch chaired the session which opened with a hymn and scripture read by E Elvers. A devotional and prayer were led by Mrs A McIntosh. Mr J Cooper of Foxwarren was invited to speak at the next meeting. Slides on Indian Culture were shown by Lorna Veitch. Lunch was served by the hostesses.

Funeral Rites Held For Samuel Mitchell at Rossburn
Samuel Mitchell 85 died February 3 1962 at his Brandon home after a long life in Manitoba. Born November 16 1876 in Castlefleming Ireland he emigrated to Rossburn in 1895 and farmed near Rossburn until retirement. He married Isabella Stitt in 1903 and moved to Brandon in 1961. Funeral at Rossburn Pentecostal Church February 7 conducted by Rev. John Coughlin with pallbearers and burial in Rossburn Cemetery. He leaves wife two sons four daughters and many grandchildren and nieces. Clark Leatherdale Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Winners Of 4 H Intermediate Public Speaking Contest
Four contestants spoke at Rossburn School on February 14. Janet Johnston won for the Calf Club and Elaine Maryniuk won for the Sewing Club with Beatrice Barnesky and Elaine Kreshewski also competing. Judges were Mr Denham and Mr Huston.

Rossburn Rural Council Meets Sets Grants and Road Plans
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met February 13 with Reeve Alex Cleland and four councillors present. They adopted the year end 1961 and January 1962 financials, requested a 60 percent grant for road projects totaling 17 500 dollars, approved snow plow pay for A W Barlow, defined plowing policy for park roads, approved dissolving School District Hankro No 1264 with lands transferring to Rossburn Consolidated, sought inclusion of multiple roads in the Main Market Road System, approved bills totaling 2 477 22, and adjourned to March 13, 1962.

The Rossburn W I meets in February with guest speaker Miss Gail Mitchell district health nurse. Mitchell serves two municipalities and two townships overseeing immunization, screenings, well baby clinics, home nursing and community health programs. The next meeting is March 6 at United Church Annex with speaker Mrs Stitt on Civil Defence.

Thank You Sandy Lake Community Raises Record $1300
The Sandy Lake community topped all towns in the Fall and Winter Associated Canadian Travellers Amateur Broadcasts with $1300. A plaque was presented to the Sandy Lake Roadcast sponsors by the Sandy Lake Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary No. 164 at the Prince Edward Hotel banquet in Brandon. Rosebowl honors were awarded to the Sandy Lake Collegiate Choir, with Jack Ziprick and Donald Malak receiving on their behalf. Other attendees included Mr and Mrs Walter Kukurudza Mr and Mrs Steve Lewandosky and Eugene Malak.
