Provincial Exhibition elects new president in Manitoba
Gary Schott was elected president of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba for a one year term at the February 11 board meeting. The 1986 87 executive includes Doug Jeffrey as First Vice President Jack McLeod as Second Vice President and Jim Green as Finance Chairman. New directors George Curtis and Jim Ferguson join the Board. Schott, general manager of Clement Travel in Brandon, aims to expand the shows and broaden agriculture outreach across Manitoba with urban understanding. Statutory directors appointed include Jake Sawatsky Jeff Harwood and Glen McMaster representing agriculture Brandon and the poultry association respectively.

Rossburn Stingers oldtimers hockey club won the B side of their tournament. In a presentation by Jack Mann of the Rossburn Hotel, captain Wally Miller received the trophy. Team roster includes Mann, Miller, Werbowski, Borowski, Ross, Moulson, Kominko, Kostesky, Ryshytylo, Ledoux, Kaskin, Woycheshin, Charney, Glushka, McGuire, and Kostecki.

Rural doctors to gain more from pay increase
Manitoba doctors will share the province wide fee raise with rural physicians at a higher rate than Winnipeg counterparts. Rural general practitioners in Brandon will see about 10.2 percent increase for 1986 87, versus 5.8 percent in Winnipeg. Special increases of 5.6 percent worth 10.2 million go to 49 specialists outside Winnipeg to boost rural appeal amid doctor shortages.

Ukrainian Cultural Choir stage drama at Ukrainian Peoples Home
Saturday January 31 the Ukrainian Peoples Home filled as the Ukrainian Cultural Choir performed Ukrainian drama for the second year. The program opened with folk songs and tsymbaly pieces by Derek Lepischak Shauna Sotas Peter Buternowsky Tracy Tim Mychasin Darlene Maryniuk and new members Sharon and Craig Zemliak with Joe Senko on guitar. The plays He Doesn t Cheat A Bad Habit How A Friend Was Cured featured cast including Joyce Kristalovich Ann Mychasin Helen Tokar James Herchak Anne Gurnick Bill Maduke Harry Twerdun Rudy Kristalovich John Antonin Matt Mychasin and others. Mike Piasta served as doctor and master of ceremonies Mike Antonin. Director Diane Twerdun. A repeat performance is planned for Gimli on February 7. The program was video taped and edited by Ron Brenda Samchuk of Bire.
