Credit Union Shows Rapid Growth During Past Year

The Rossburn Credit Union Society held its 12th annual meeting at Town Hall on Feb 11 with 62 members and 25 guests. Reports showed 113 new members in 1964, total active membership 436, assets up to 193,603. A 4% dividend on shares and a 20% rebate to borrowers were approved. Officers elected: President L C Johnston, Vice President Bert Mitchell, Secretary J D Andrew. Board members include Sterling Veitch, George Lawless, Ronald Kostesky. Supervisory Committee: Ronat Veitch, Ernest Stefanuk, Eugene Caldwell. Credit Committee: Harry Verbowski, John Plant, Nicholas Stupinsky. Manager Mrs Nancy Andrew.

Junior Highlights And Local Curling And Basketball Results

Junior Hi Bonspiel starts Feb 27 with 10 rinks competing for prizes. Variety Concert set for Apr 9 with items chosen by a committee. Ron Major beat Russell Andrew 8-7 and Larry Huston defeated Glenn Carson 8-2 in curling. Rossburn hosts Russell for basketball on Feb 12. Russell girls won 38-37 over Rossburn. Russell boys also prevailed. Russell leads Pelly Trail District. Rossburn second. Russell to represent Pelly Trail District March 6 at Major Pratt Collegiate. Inglis won first in the Pelly Trail Boy’s District Bonspiel at Elphinstone Feb 13. Rossburn’s Wayne Carson earned second. Ping Pong final: Wilma Sotas and D Smith team 15 beat team 24.

Oakburn Rink Tops Vista in Bonspiel at Vista Spiel

Oakburn rink dominates Vista at the Vista Spiel bonspiel. In the mixed bonspiel, Oakburn's Mike Tutkaluk wins the first event with Nick Morris of Vista second and Vice Hodkinson of Selsgirth third. In the second event Steve Waytowich of Vista takes first with W.M. second and Jack Malanchuk of Oakburn third. The third event sees Walter Scwaluk of Vista finish first while Don Stitt of Rossburn places second and Bob Young third. Willis Stitt earns the Hard Luck Prize as first out.

AB Hockey Tournament set for Rossburn Saturday

An AB Tournament will be held at Rossburn on Saturday February 20 with four teams Angusville Rossburn Binsearth and St Lazare starting at 10 00 a m Inglis defeated Rossburn 12 to 5 at the Arena in Snake Creek League action on February 6 then Rossburn beat Inglis 5 to 1 on February 13 Leonard Komhyr scored four goals for Rossburn and Ryan Shust had one In local play Russell 15 and under beat Binsearth after a 5 5 tie and then lost 7 6 to Cardale in the opening game of the next round We wish the local boys best of luck in the play off games.

Vista Women's Institute Meeting

The January meeting was hosted by Mrs. V. Clayton with Mrs. M. Stitt assisting. Members reviewed annual reports, then February gatherings at Mrs. D. Armstrong’s home planned a Whist Drive and Dance for March 5 in Vista Hall. The club welcomed Vista 4H members and leaders for a film on 4H activities to be shown March 10 at the school. lunch followed.

Village of Rossburn Holds Routine Meeting

The Village of Rossburn council met in the Council Chambers on February 16, 1965. Present were Mayor Peter Wladyka and Councillors Mike Antonin, Harry Drosdoski, Mike Verbowski, and Harry Komhor. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved on motion.

Scout Notes From 1st Rossburn Scouts Active In Morse and Ham Radio

The 1st Rossburn Scouts stay busy with second and first class training in Morse code and radio theory. Amateur ham operator J D Andrew donates an hour weekly to coach scouts toward amateur radio. Some youngsters may drop out to focus on regular scout training while others pursue proficiency badges. On Wednesday the 17th gun handling will be taught as part of the marksman's badge. On February 15 Mr Stefanik and Mr Huston drove to Birtle for a Father and Son Banquet, an entertaining evening.

The report notes continued favorable February weather with alternating mild and colder days. It lists highs and lows for this week and compares to last year and 1963, plus record extremes for February including a high of 40 on February 11, 1957 and a low of -34 on February 15, 1958.
