Local congratulations go to Mr John Barnesky and Mrs Barnesky as they mark their 55th wedding anniversary on February 12. The pair have lived in Rossburn for decades and are known in the community for their long marriage and family.

Rossburn 12U Beats Hamiota 12-2 In MAHA Opener

Rossburn 12 and under team trounced Hamiota 12-2 in the MAHA series opener at Rossburn on Wednesday February 11. Grant Mitchell scored seven goals to lead Rossburn while Brad Mazur Harvey Cloud and Dale Sidorky each added goals in the lopsided win. The second game is scheduled Sunday at Hamiota at 4 30 p.m.

Unusually Mild Weather Prevails

The past week brought unusually mild weather with a record high of 40 degrees on February 8 to 9 and 37 on February 9. The 40 degree reading at about 6:00 a.m. was likely the warmest night time February temperature ever recorded here.

Another Active Year For Local Lions Club

The Rossburn Lions Club reports a busy year with donations totaling to eye and hearing charities and local youth hockey causes. Beneficiaries include Eye Bank Fund of Manitoba, Hearing Foundation, and Children's Aid Society, plus sweaters and socks for Minor Hockey, Christmas activities, and a joint tournament with the Rossburn Hornets. A Santa visit for seniors and a Christmas card project also featured in the club’s year.

Rural Municipality of Rossburn holds special meeting

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn Council met in council chambers at 8:00 p.m. with all members present and the secretary-treasurer absent due to a family death. Motions approved included audit acceptance, tax sale certificate assignment to McKietiuk Freighters Limited, third readings for By-Laws 1012 and 1003, and authorizing attendance at a fire commission meeting for mutual aid planning. Donations and memberships were approved and a repair inquiry for office and shed furnaces was assigned to Councillor Dnistransky.

Rossburn Lions Club celebrate charter night and November gifts

The notes record the 15th anniversary of Rossburn Lions Club Charter Night and a November gift of a speaker stand to a new Roblin Lions Club. The club sponsored a CNIB campaign in October raising $200 and provided four chaperones for two RC I dances. A Masquerade Ball was held on Hallowe'en.

The narrator recalls Rossburn’s telephone evolution from a single public line in a grocery to private home service in 1913 as the Switch Board began, Manitoba Telephones then assumed control, the 1972 Dial System replacing operators, and Direct Distance Dialing planned for February 19 1976 with buried cable library of progress and pride.
