Direct Distance Dialing Expands in Manitoba Communities
More than 2 300 telephones in Birtle Foxwarren St Lazare Oakburn and Rossburn will gain Direct Distance Dialing on February 19 as part of a phased rollout across southwestern Manitoba. An SP-1 electronic switching machine in Brandon supports the network enabling station to station long distance calls to North America with further communities to be added as funds and equipment permit. The expansion aims to give over 90 percent of Manitoba phones DDD access.

Area speak-offs are planned for March 9 with events in Inglis and Foxwarren, Russell hosting the district competition March 15 or 16.
