The Rossburn Council warns residents to license dogs, keep them from running loose, and pay penalties if impounded. Stray dogs are held, with owners able to reclaim by paying fees. Farm folk and others are invited to enquire at the pound or the municipal office for notification of dogs becoming available.
The United Church Women of Birtle Presbytery met at Decker on January 24 with Mrs. Frank Reid presiding. Crandall UCW led the opening devotional, officers and committees reported, bursary needs were highlighted, and notes included disbandment of three local UCWs in 1972 and thrift shop success. The annual meeting is February 19 in Birtle with registration at 9:30 a.m.
Janice Borowski announces a get acquainted gathering for all Ross Burn senior citizens at the Drop In Centre on Wednesday February 14 1973 at 2 pm. Transportation is available on request. A lunch will be served and discussions will cover Local Initiative Program funded activities. Contact Janice at 859 2198 to arrange.
Waywayseecappo voters elected Chief George Cloud with 54 votes on February 1. Former Chief Hugh McKay had 35, Leslie Longeaws 29, Wilfred Blackie 12. Councillors elected were Norbert Tanner 101, Harvey Cooke 86, Tom Rattlesnake 81, Kingsley Kewatincappo 76, Gerald Cloud 66, Frank Seaton 63. High turnout noted.
Oakburn Senior Citizens sponsors Mrs Mary Borodie Mrs Anne Bucklaschuk Mrs Jeanette Michalyshyn and Mrs Alice Peech hosted 70 seniors from Oakburn Menzie Olha Leech and Dolyny at Oakburn Parish Hall on February 1 1973 at 1 30 PM after guest book signing.
A public meeting will be held at 7 30 p m February 16 in Rossburn Elementary Auditorium to discuss CN s Servocentre concept and its impact on the Rossburn area. All welcome.
Rossburn and District Recreation Commission led by Janice Borvowski develops plans for a drop in center and an adopt A Grandparent program to aid seniors. Dennis Person advances minor hockey with a noon skating program and a Hockey School planned for February 17 1973 under a Local Initiative Program grant.
In a two overtime North Central league game Rossburn Hornets beat Oak River 8 7 after Lynn Beaton netted the OT winner with Dwain Lawless assisting at 4 30 of sudden death. Beaton had 3 goals and 3 assists while Dennis Person added 3 goals and 1 assist. Earlier Rossburn lost 12 11 in a late overtime thriller in Rivers on Feb 3.
Winners of the draw sponsored by the Rossburn Minor Hockey Association were 1st prize 25 dollars cash to Mrs Nancy Andrew and 2nd prize 15 dollars cash to Mrs Marion Douglas. The association thanks everyone for support and notes that the program would not be financially possible without it.
The Angusville hosted the first annual Minor Atom hockey tournament on January 27 with Grandview sweeping the A side 7-1 to claim the championship trophy. Grandview toppled Birtle 14-2 and Hamiota 6-0 in semis, while Angusville defeated Russell 6-2 before losing 7-1 to Grandview in the final. The runners up trophy went to Ste. Rose after a 3-0 win over St. Lazare in the B side final.
