Great Interest In Local Science Fair

The annual Science Fair drew about 120 projects from around 400 students and over 300 visitors. Eighteen judges including Mrs Komhyr and Mr Jackson volunteered, with Rossburn Lions Club donating 50 toward prizes. Winners span kindergarten to grade 8 across subjects such as energy, electricity, animals, birds, and space, with many advancing to the Divisional Science Fair in Oakburn on February 9.

A gathering of Sub-District Councils from Birdtail Rossburn and Oakburn is set for Rossburn Town Hall basement on Wednesday February 7 at 2 p.m. Speakers will be in attendance. All members urged to attend.

Waywayseecappa Gets PEP Grants For Community Projects

Premier Ed Schreyer announced that 11 northern Manitoba communities and 15 Indian bands received winter work grants under the Provincial Employment Program totaling 312,202. The funds support community betterment, providing about 470 man-months of work. Waywayseccappo gets 9,080 for indigent house repairs and 3,200 for a rink dressing room.

Motel Opens in Rossburn on Mountain Avenue

Rossburn welcomes the Double H Motel on Mountain Avenue with eight units ready for guests. The new facility provides phone and TV in each room, serving travelers beginning Thursday February 1. Reservations can be made by calling 859 2059 in Rossburn.

Regional Development Priorities To Be Discussed

More than forty delegates are expected at a Dauphin banquet on February 1 to discuss regional development priorities. Sponsored by Parkland Regional Development Corporation, the meeting follows Manitoba Government Regional Analysis Program outputs, with responses expected from Hon. Peter Burtniak. The Parkland Board, RAP committee leaders, school officials, and provincial department reps will attend at La Verendrye restaurant. Parkland’s combined community and regional reports are available upon request.

Helen Henderson To Instruct Oakburn Group

The Oakburn Ukrainian choral group will receive vocal lessons from Mrs. Helen Lazaruk Henderson, director of Canada's National Ukrainian Festival Choir and St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church Choir. Lessons start Monday February 5 at Oakburn Elementary School from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Dauphin.

Hornets Rally Ends In Overtime Loss To Shoal Lake

Rossburn Hornets dropped a pair of North Central hockey games with Russell and Shoal Lake. In Russell on Sunday Rossburn led 4-1 after two periods but fell 6-5 in overtime as Shoal Lake recovered late. Dwaine Lawless scored thrice for Rossburn, Marcel Mongrain led Russell with three goals, and key injuries hampered Rossburn late.
