The North-West Minor League fixture on Wednesday January 27 saw the Locals prevail 4 to 3 on home ice. James Brandon starred in goal, delivering a standout performance that secured the win.

Funeral held Friday January 29 1954 in Rossburn for John Kreshwski who died January 26 after a long illness in Rossburn Hospital Rev Olynek officiated Pallbearers were Peter Kreshwski Steve Stech Sam Kreshwski Peter Yanick and Billy Kreshwski Jr Survivors include four daughters Nellie Marco Anne Shoal Lake Teenie and Margaret and four sons Mike Nick Joe Billy, thirty four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A large crowd braved storm and cold to honor Mrs. Albert Chesney who died January 25 at fifty four. Rae Funeral Home led the service at Vista Community Hall on January 28 with Pastor H Alston as pastor and soloist. Pallbearers were J Miller A McPhail B Rogers R Stitt W Moulson and W Armstrong. Mrs. Chesney born Mabel Hamilton lived in Saskatchewan Manitoba and moved to Rossburn in 1914. She married Awrot Cheaner in 1916 and is survived by husband a son Tommy of Portage la Prairie a daughter Theresa Wingert of Millet Alberta five grandchildren two sisters and four brothers. The obituary closes with a verse about death and divine love.
