Parkland Region eyes 1988 Regional Summer Games hosts
Seven Parkland communities show interest in hosting the 1988 Regional Summer Games to select Manitoba Games finalists. Hosts to be announced in early January with 500 plus athletes coaches and officials expected across 10 sports under a centralized format in two or three communities. Farmers Should Decide Burn Rules in Rossburn Area
The RM of Rossburn council urged keeping farm burning decisions with farmers, arguing flax straw burning remains the only effective disposal method. Reeve John Mitchell said Winnipeg area smoke causes visibility issues due to air currents, urging provincewide rule consistency be avoided and local discretion upheld.

Pelly Trail School Board Accepts Hrubeniuk Resignation
Russell The Pelly Trail School Division held its regular board meeting with all trustees present. Cheques totaling 460,524.48 were approved. The board accepted Phyllis Hrubeniuk’s resignation as secretary librarian effective December 31, 1987, and Larry Liske’s resignation as Ward I Trustee effective November 11, 1987. The Secretary-Treasurer will arrange a by-election for Ward I. The Superintendent will assess extending Elphinstone See School page 2.

CMHC Has No Immediate Dwellings Plans for Rossburn
CMHC says there are no new construction plans for 1988 in Rossburn though expansions for low income housing could occur. Roy Nichol notes no new applications since a unit was previously purchased. Subsidized units rent at 25 percent of income with option to buy after two years of responsible leasing. Rossburn currently has enough housing units to meet demand.
