Rossburn Village Council Meeting 1961 Decisions

The council read and passed By-Law No. 342 for tax cancellation in 1961. They approved applying to the Department of Labour to modify the skating rink under the Winter Works Incentive Program with about 500 dollars for labour. They accepted 125 dollars rent from the Rural Municipality of Rossburn for use of the fire truck. Vernon Hamilton to be hired as skating rink caretaker for 1961-62 at 110 dollars per month starting about November 16, 1961. Bills totaling 1,178.86 approved. Next meeting set for January 2, 1962 at eight PM.

Cubs Hold Year End Meeting with Inspector Yates

Last Wednesday December 13 the First Rossburn Wolf Cub Pack hosted Field Commissioner R E Yates for a general and special inspection. Yates spoke briefly before lively games in which he participated. Gifts treats and a festive lunch followed as the year closed. The next meeting is scheduled for January 10 with season’s greetings exchanged.

Bingo Winners Take Home Prizes At Game and Fish Meeting

The Game and Fish Bingo held on December 18 realized $40.00 with multiple prizes. Winners included J. D. Andrew, Phyllis Malaniuk, Norman Scarrow, O. Elvers, Kenny Hamilton, Larry Hamilton, Steve Magdaniuk, Mervin Crookshanks, Ed Shust, and Wally Osmack of Brandon. A $1.00 donation came from Hugh Armstrong toward the Water Safety Project.

Boxing Day Tournament at Rossburn Arena Set

The 10th Annual Boxing Day Tournament will be held at the Rossburn Memorial Arena on Tuesday December 26 with four teams including Decker Griswold and Rossburn. First game 2:00 pm second 4:30 pm final 7:30 pm. Also notes Langridge funeral December 13 and local hockey news from Erickson Cardale and Rossburn with scores.

John Daniel McDonald died December 12 at Brandon. He formerly farmed about 214 miles north of Kelloe. Funeral held Saturday December 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Clark Leatherdale Funeral Home with interment in Brandon Cemetery. Rev. J R Donnelly officiated.

Death of William Henry Colclough at 78 in Saskatoon

William Henry Colclough died recently at Saskatoon at age 78. He served as the Methodist minister at Rossburn in 1915. Survived by wife Blanche daughter Ruth Weels of Palo Alto California, sons Hartwell of Chilliwack British Columbia Frederick of Vancouver and Rev Jack Colclough of Calgary Alberta, six grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
