Winnipeg youth input sought for High School Review Panel
Education Minister Jerry Storie announced a youth sub committee to ensure Manitoba youth voices are heard by the High School Review Panel. Guylaine Nacinovitch will chair. first meeting was December 9. The panel will identify issues, submit recommendations, and urge youth submissions during the consultative phase for a final report to the minister.

Elementary Times Starts At Rossburn School
Rossburn Elementary School introduces Elementary Times a monthly student newspaper organized by teachers Joe Zurbyk and John Calder. Grades 6 7 and 8 participate with each student handling a distinct role from sports writing to cartoons and gossip columns under peer proofreading. Police grants to be paid to Manitoban municipalities
Municipal Affairs Minister John Bucklaschuk announced a program to support policing costs. Municipalities contribute half a mill on their equalized assessment, with grants capped at 100000 dollars for those above average costs. The provincial rate for net policing costs in 1986 is 17.3 mills, with 22 municipalities receiving grants totaling 543991 dollars. the Town of Birtle gets 8941 dollars.

Pelly Trail backs bid for Summer Games
