Marco Grassland Project Demonstrates Beef Efficiency
Agriculture officials report on the Marco Grassland Project located 14 miles north of Oakburn along PTH 557 and 4.5 miles east of Rossman Lake. The program tests management techniques to maximize beef pounds per acre on 28 hectares of heavy bush 4 hectares of open meadow and 32 hectares of tame forage with 70 yearling steers. Fertilizer costs range from 18.96 to 30.72 per acre, and 200 pounds of beef per acre is projected on tame pasture for 1978 with profits possible despite costs. A pamphlet detailing the project is available at the local Ag office.
