Weather Trough Brings Severe Thunderstorms And Rainfall
Severe thunderstorms struck the region last week with a Friday electrical storm followed by a Sunday downpour delivering about two inches of rain. A frost scare Tuesday evening prompted frost warnings, but temperatures dipped to 44. The Birdtail River area to the west saw unsettled conditions as officials adjourned council to meet Monday September 15 at 8:00 a.m.
New Social Worker Joins Birtle Health Team
JoAnne Phillips Master of Social Work has joined the Birtle Health and Social Development team serving Russell Silver Creek Rosser Ellice Birtle Shoal Lake and Park areas. She will provide personal and family counselling, coordinate with Children’s Aid Vocational Rehabilitation and Public Health staff, accept referrals, and assist community projects from the Birtle office. Social assistance remains handled by an income maintenance counsellor in Brandon.

Dr. S. H. Lee will arrive in Rossburn to commence practice as Physician and Surgeon at Rossburn Hospital. He plans to start Monday September 1 with office hours Monday to Saturday. He previously served in Treherne Manitoba and Australia, and is accustomed to rural practice serving Rossburn and surrounding areas.

4 H Exchange Visit Highlights From South Dakota Trip
On Sunday August 3 at 8 30 p m a chartered bus brought 21 4 H exchange members from Gary and Clear Lake South Dakota to Russell The group aimed to repay a July visit as hosts for a week Connie Fairchild stayed with Mr and Mrs Matt Antonin in Rossburn Connie and Cheryl Fairchild also visited Roblin and Gary The trip featured a pot luck supper at Asessippi Beach games and tours including Shellmouth Dam and the Rossburn Harvest Festival After a week the visitors left by bus early Sunday morning hoping to meet again someday.
