Religious Vacation Schools Held in Manitoba Districts

Religious Vacation Schools were conducted July 16 to 21 under the pastor’s direction at St. Theresa’s Church Rossburn St. Catherine’s Oakburn Holy Trinity Angusville with Sisters of Service in Winnipeg and Miss Mary Budz directing in Oakburn. A full program of Christian Doctrine Bible History and Liturgy was followed. First Holy Communion was given July 29 to listed children in Rossburn Angusville and Oakburn. Archbishop Philip F Pocock administered Confirmation in each district.

Parish Welcomes Rev Romanyshyn Back From Trip

Oakburn parish held a welcome home party for Rev. P. Romanyshyn of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. He returned from a May departure for his homeland, while Rev. Leschynsky’s three months substitute tenure ended. Speakers praised his travels and wartime service, and gifts were presented to guests of honor. The event concluded with a lunch prepared by parish ladies.

Tea and Shower Aids Hospital Fundraiser Attended

The Vista W. L held a well attended Tea and Shower to aid Bossburn District Hospital, raising $20 for the hospital. Donors listed include Mrs. Hugh Armstrong with roast meat, Mrs. Wm. Armstrong with juices, and many others contributing foods, linens, soaps, towels, and toiletries, reflecting strong community support from Rossburn and Winnipeg connections.

New Forage Crop Policy Aims at Soil Conservation

A 1956 57 policy promotes soil conservation and better land use by encouraging farmers to seed land to forage semi permanently. Assistance is available in 10 to 30 acre allotments at about 1.70 dollars per acre. Interested parties should contact the Agricultural Office in Shoal Lake promptly.

Rossburn Witnesses Attend Four Day Christian Training

Rossburn Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses will send 8 members to a four day program in Winnipeg from August 16 to 19 to advance Christian principles. Delegation led by presiding minister Danyleyko includes Mr and Mrs Steve Danyleyko Mr Alex McLeod and Mrs Katie Ewanchuk. Local witnesses praise the assembly for strengthening ministerial service for lasting peace and community well being.

Death of Peter Paquett at Sacred Heart Hospital Russell

Peter Paquett died August 6 at Sacred Heart Hospital Russell after a two year illness, with funeral and requiem mass on August 9 led by Mrs. C. Decorby at St. Lazare. Born September 19, 1880, he was the son of Peter and Margaret Paquett of St. Raymond PQ, married Elizabeth Decorby in 1908, and lived in Angusville after moving from Binsearth. He ran a blacksmith shop, farmed near town, and was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Russell Forrester Lodge. survived by his wife, one brother, three sisters in Quebec, with out-of-town mourners listed.

Fish Derby Coming Events at Fishing Lae

A Fish Derby will be held on Sunday August 19 from 9 am to 7 pm at Fishing Lae nine miles northeast of Rosshun. Entry is $1 per person with prizes of 15 percent of the gate for first and 10 percent for second.
